Rhodes Falls 3-2 in Double OT Thriller to Montclair State in NCAA Field Hockey First Round

MONTCLAIR, N.J. - Brittany Carroll scored 6:22 into the second overtime and gave Montclair State a 3-2 field hockey win over Rhodes in the opening round of the 2011 NCAA Tournament. Box Score

Montclair State improves to 19-2 overall and advances to face No. 1 ranked Salisbury Saturday, November 12th in the second round of the NCAA Tournament. The Lynx, winner of three straight SCAC Championships close out their season with a record of 11-7.

The host Red Hawks took a 2-0 lead as Devin McNamara scored twice with the first coming at 3:54 and again at 31:43 both goals assisted by Carroll.  

Rhodes responded in the second half as Katie Faucher scored on Kat Simpson's assist 9:29 into the half and Simpson forced the overtime with a goal, assisted by Faucher, with just 46 seconds left.

Carroll, who leads the Red Hawks with 17 goals and 45 points on the season, delivered the game winner advancing Montclair State into the second round of the NCAA Tournament for the third time in program history.

Montclair State held a 23-5 advantage in shots and a 9-5 edge in penalty corners. Megan Bosland totaled two saves for the Red Hawks, while Rhodes' Jordan Robinson had 11.
