Trinity's Richardson Earns Third SCAC Player of the Week Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Sophomore forward Anecia Richardson of Trinity University have been named SCAC Women's Basketball Player of the Week for the third time this season for her efforts this past weekend. 

 

 

 

 

 

SCAC PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Games of  January 20th – January 26th

ANECIA RICHARDSON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a sophomore forward from Mesquite, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 20th through Sunday, January 26th.

Richardson led Trinity to a pair of SCAC road wins over the weekend, defeating Dallas and Colorado College to maintain the top spot in the conference standings.

Richardson averaged 21.0 points/game, 6.5 rebounds/game, and 4.0 blocks/game for the weekend, shooting 75% (15-20) from the field and 85.7% (12-14) from the free throw line.  

Richardson scored 26 points on 8-10 field goals and 10-12 free throws to lead the Tigers to the win. She also pulled down eight rebounds to go with four blocks in the game. Against Colorado, Richardson scored 16 points in just 23 minutes of action, hitting 7-10 from the field, swatting four blocks, and pulling down five rebounds.

For the season, Richardson leads Trinity with 16.6 points/game and is second on the team with 5.3 rebounds/game.  She also leads the team with 65.6% (120-183) shooting, and has scored 67.8% (59-87) from the foul line. Richardson has also made 35 blocks to pace the team as well. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior guard/forward Erin Riley of Austin College had a big weekend for Austin College as the 'Roos split their games with Schreiner and Texas Lutheran, averaging 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds while hitting 50% of her shots from the field and 43.8% of her three point attempts. Junior guard Courtney Tyus of Colorado College averaged 16.5 points, 7.3 assists and 7.0 rebounds per game during Colorado College's three games last week. Senior post Christy Allen of Dallas averaged 18.5 points/game and 9.5 rebounds including a double-double against Southwestern while going 1-1 on the weekend. Junior forward Lindsey Peterson of Schreiner helped lead the Mountaineers to a 1-1 week  with 39 points (19.5 ppg) and 18 rebounds.  She had 26 points and 9 rebounds against Centenary. Senior guard/forward Chelsea Leeder of Southwestern averaged 24.5 points and 12 rebounds per game this week while shooting 47% from the floor and 35% from three point range in 38 minutes per game. Freshman guard/forward Savannah Hight of Texas Lutheran averaged 13.5 points, 4.0 rebounds, 1.0 assists and 1.0 steals per game. She made 10 of her 17 total field goal attempts (58.8 percent) and made five of her seven three-point attempts (71.4 percent). Centenary did not nominate anyone.
