MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Trinity University sophomore forward Anecia Richardson was selected to the D3hoops.com All-South Region Second Team while University of Dallas first-year guard Holly Tonry was named South Region Rookie-of-the-Year in announcement made by the website this morning.
Richardson, the 2013-14 SCAC Player-of-the-Year, averaged a league-leading 16.6 points per game and also led the league in field goal percentage at 62.4 percent - the fourth-highest single-season total in league history. A four-time SCAC Player-of-the-Week selection during the regular season, the sophomore sensation averaged 5.8 rebounds per game and finished second in the league in blocks with 59. Richardson had 22 points and 13 rebounds in the Tigers' 54-52 loss to Texas Lutheran University in the SCAC title game and earned All-Tournament honors for the second consecutive year.
The 2013-14 SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year, Holly Tonry of the University of Dallas averaged 7.9 points and 4.0 assists per game (third in the SCAC) in her inaugural campaign. She led all freshmen in assists (109) and steals (48) and was second among first-year players in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.1), third in free-throw percentage (69.9%) and fifth in scoring. She is the second consecutive SCAC women's player to earn D3hoops.com South Region Rookie-of-the-Year honors, following Trinity's Richardson who was also the SCAC Newcomer-of-the-Year in 2012-13.
