MADISON WEISINGER OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior right side from Friendswood, Texas, has been named SCAC Volleyball Defensive Player-of-the-Week for matches played from Monday, April 5 through Sunday, April 11.
Weisinger led TLU to a 4-0 overall and conference record last week as the Bulldogs secured the No. 6 seed for the upcoming SCAC Women's Volleyball Championship. Weisinger averaged 1.29 blocks per set and totaled 18 total blocks during the four matches. She had 16 block assists and two block solos.
She also hit .330 for the week with 44 kills, serving seven aces including five in a row at one point in a win over Dallas.
Other impressive performances in the SCAC:
Senior defensive specialist Kaylyn Latin of St. Thomas had 75 digs (8.33 per set) as the Celts split a pair of matches against Schreiner this past week. She had a season-high 48 in the 3-2 victory over the Mountaineers on Saturday. Sophomore libero Peyton Hummel of Colorado College averaged 6.33 digs per set to help the Tigers post a pair of sweeps at Centenary last week. Hummel began the weekend with 18 digs in Friday's 25-22, 25-21, 25-19 victory. During Saturday's 25-14, 25-19, 25-15 win, she recorded a match-high 20 digs, the 10th time she finished with double-digit digs and her second match with 20 or more this season. Junior defensive specialist Ali Grona of Southwestern had 43 digs in nine sets of action this past weekend, averaging 4.78 per set.
