DAVI'YANNA JONES OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a first-year guard from San Antonio, Texas, has been named the SCAC Women’s Basketball Player-of-the-Week for games played from Monday, January 23 through Sunday, January 29. SCAC Women's Basketball Release (Week 12)
Jones had the best week of her career so far, recording her first career double-double in last Friday's game at St. Thomas and led the Bulldogs to a 75-50 win over Centenary on Sunday with a career-high 14 points and seven rebounds. For the week Jones averaged nearly a double-double, pouring in 13.5 points on 52.6 percent shooting and grabbing 9.0 rebounds per game. In addition, she added 3.5 steals and 1.0 assist per contest, anchored by a career-high five steals last Friday against the Celts.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore guard Alana Jones of Centenary had an impressive weekend for the Ladies as she averaged 11 points per game and added seven rebounds with one double-double. Jones played 39 minutes in both games at home against Southwestern and Texas Lutheran and totaled eight steals, three assists, a blocked shot, and went 5-for-6 at the free throw line. Jones has now reached double figures seven times this season, grabbed 10 or more rebounds in a game eight times, and has five double-doubles. Senior guard Anna Fanelli of Colorado College led the Tigers to a pair of SCAC road victories last week against Dallas and Austin College. She averaged 8.0 points on 50 percent shooting and added 2.5 assists, 1.5 rebounds and 0.5 steals per game. Junior guard Hayden Morin of St. Thomas was critical to help lift the Celts to back-to-back wins for the first time this season, picking up crucial SCAC home victories over Texas Lutheran, 61-54, last Friday and Southwestern, 59-58, on Sunday. She averaged 15.5 points per game, grabbed 3.5 rebounds and dished out 3.5 assists per game as well. Defensively, Morin averaged 1.5 steals per contest.
