TOBEY WILLS OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a junior from Richmond, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played through Tuesday, February 27. SCAC Golf Release (Spring - Week 2)
Wills earned medalist honors at the Space City Classic, carding rounds of 70, 71 and 70, as the junior posted a three round total of 211 to finish at minus 1. He was the only player in the 52-person field to finish the tournament at under par. Wills finished second in the field in pars made (37) and was tied for fifth with 10 birdies at the Gus Wortham Park Golf Course in Houston.
The win marks the third individual championship in Wills' career.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Junior Jacob Mason of Trinity, who led after the first two rounds of the Space City Classic, settled for a runner-up finish after rounds of 68, 70 and 75. His three-round total of 213 was good for even par and left him just three shots off the lead. Senior Patrick Smetek of St. Thomas had one of just five rounds fired in the 60s, opening with a 68, before wrapping up the Space City Classic with rounds of 76 and 73 and a three-round total of 218 (+5) to finish in fourth place alone.
