Bulldogs Hold in NFCA Top 25

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – The Texas Lutheran softball team held onto their top five ranking in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 for NCAA Division III.

The NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll is selected by Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.

The Bulldogs outscored conference-rival Schreiner University 30-8 across four games en route to a perfect weekend. They currently sit at 8-0 in SCAC play with a 20-1 overall record.

TLU's bats are led by senior first baseman Taylor Yancey who posts a .453 batting average, a .734 slugging percentage and a .507 OBP, numbers good enough for second in the league in each category.

The Bulldogs have arguably three of the best pitchers in the SCAC with junior Amanda Lochte, senior Taylor Grissom and junior Veny Pizana rounding out the top three ERA's and opposing batting averages in the SCAC. Lochte posts a league-best 1.23 ERA with 37 strikeouts and has held opposing bats to a .185 batting average. Grissom has an ERA of 1.26 and has held opposing bats to a .215 average. Finally, Pizana's ERA is 1.35 with a league best .168 opposing batting average. TLU's pitchers are ranked 10th in the nation with a collective 1.27 ERA.

The Bulldogs will face Centenary College at home this weekend.
