Texas Lutheran Softball Leaps into NFCA Top Ten

LOUISVILLE, Ky. – After a perfect 10-0 start to the 2016 campaign, the Texas Lutheran softball team jumped five spots to No. 8 in the latest National Fastpitch Coaches Association Top 25 for NCAA Division III.

The TLU bats are led by senior catcher and reigning SCAC Player-of-the-Year Jennifer Gallagher posts a .515 batting average and a .568 OBP, both good enough for second in the league. Gallagher leads the league in RBI (15) and doubles (8) and is tied for first with 17 hits. She also posts a top five slugging percentage (.758).

The Bulldogs have three of the best arms in the SCAC in Veny Pizana, Amanda Lochte and Taylor Grissom. Pizana holds the best ERA (0.00) in the SCAC among pitchers who average at least one inning pitched per game and is one of only 27 pitchers in the nation to hold a perfect ERA. Lochte (0.27) and Grissom (0.78) round out the top three spots in SCAC ERA. The trio also hold three of the top five spots in opposing batting average.

This season, TLU's pitchers have limited opposing teams to only 13 total runs and are No. 4 in the nation in team ERA (0.58).
