Texas Lutheran Falls to East Texas Baptist at Tyler Regional

TYLER, Texas -- Eighth-ranked East Texas Baptist handed No. 5 Texas Lutheran its worst loss of the season, an 11-0 defeat in five innings, Friday afternoon in the opening game of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship - Tyler Regional. Post-game Interview | Photo Gallery

At the University of Texas at Tyler's Suddenlink Field, ETBU scored a run in the first, six in the third, and four more in the fifth to advance to the winner's side of the regional bracket.

The Tigers (35-8) will face the winner of the University of Texas at Tyler v. Agnes Scott game, which started at 4 p.m. The winner's bracket game starts at 11 a.m. Saturday.

TLU (41-4) faces the loser of UT Tyler and Agnes Scott. The elimination contest starts at 2 p.m. Saturday. A live video webcast for all TLU Softball regional games can be found at tlubulldogs.com.

TLU committed three errors in the field that led to six unearned runs. The Bulldogs also left nine runners on base.

ETBU starter Kelly Jo McLendon scattered seven hits and worked around three walks to improve to 15-6 overall.

TLU senior Taylor Grissom tossed 2-2/3 innings and allowed seven runs (only two earned). She walked one and struck out one in falling to 16-1. 

Taylor Yancey and Heather Hummel each had two hits for the Bulldogs. Hummel also had a walk.

Brayden Pinckard picked up a hit and two stolen bases.
