Texas Lutheran's Yancey Named NFCA All-American

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - Taylor Yancey of Texas Lutheran University became the first SCAC softball player since 2010 to be named National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) All-America. Full Release

The NFCA Division III All-America softball teams are selected from the pool of players who earned first team All-Region recognition by eight NCAA Division III head coaches representing the eight NCAA regions.

Yancey, a senior first baseman from Magnolia, Texas, earned third team honors after winning the 2016 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Player-of-the-Year. Yancey was also named first team All-West Region and was a member of the SCAC All-Tournament team. She finished the year leading the SCAC in batting average (.476), hits (69), doubles (25), runs batted in (54) total bases (103) and OBP (.524).

Yancey posted TLU career records in doubles (66) and RBI's (141) this year. She also set single-season school records for batting average (.476), doubles (25), RBI (54) and hits (69). Yancey's doubles record of 25 this year currently sits as the second-most in all of NCAA Division III.

With Yancey leading the way, TLU finished 2016 with an overall record of 43-5. The Bulldogs, winners of three consecutive SCAC Championships, played in their third straight NCAA Division III Tyler Regional and finished as the regional runner-up for the second time in three seasons.

The 2016 Bulldogs ended their year with numerous school marks, including team marks for: batting average (.384), slugging percentage (.544), on-base percentage (.449), stolen bases (164-for-178), doubles (104), home runs (25), and walks (149).
