LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -
Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s soccer continued last week with four conference contests highlighted by a rematch of the 2019 SCAC Championship game as Trinity and Southwestern squared off in San Antonio.

Trinity (2-0-0, 2-0-0) remained unbeaten after defeating Southwestern (1-1-0, 1-1-0) in a clash of last year’s title match on Sunday afternoon. The Tigers opened the scoring early as Kaity Ward converted on a free kick from outside the box to give Trinity a one goal lead in the fifth minute. Trailing 1-0 at the half, Southwestern tied the game when Sydney Kattaward scored her first of the season in the 52nd minute. Trinity would respond as Ward once again scored an unassisted goal in the 63rd minute and then Mary Sheridan scored the eventual game-winner in the 66th minute off a feed from Alex Walsh. The Pirates pulled within one thanks to a Juliet Pridgen marker, but Sheridan put the game away with her second goal of the match in the 88th minute, this time assisted from Bella Ferruzzi. The two goals conceded by the Tigers is the first time since September of 2012 that Trinity has allowed more than one goal in a SCAC contest. It is just the second time during the run of 119-straight SCAC wins that Trinity has allowed more than one goal.

Centenary (5-0-0, 2-0-0) remained perfect on the year and kept pace with Trinity at the top of the table after defeating Austin College (0-2-0, 0-2-0), 1-0, on Saturday in Shreveport. The lone goal of the match came in the 28th minute when Gabby McDonald scored her second on the season. Maggie Pitcher and Avery Sanderson combined to make three saves as the Ladies posted their fourth-straight shutout. Meredith Harris and Maya Erwin combined to make 11 saves on the afternoon for Austin College as Centenary outshot the ‘Roos, 34-5.

Despite playing down a man for the final 10 minutes of the match, St. Thomas (1-1-0, 1-1-0) picked up its first win of the season, defeating Schreiner (0-2-0, 0-2-0) 1-0 on the road last Saturday. The Celts took the lead in the 84th minute off an own goal from the Mountaineers and held on down the stretch for the win. Carmen Lozada came up large for St. Thomas, registering seven saves to keep the clean sheet and preserve three big points for the Celts. St. Thomas’ Aeriana Lewis led all players with six shots on the afternoon, while Sierra Blackwell and Natalee Talley each recorded two shots for Schreiner.

Texas Lutheran (1-2-0, 1-1-0) defeated Dallas (1-1-0, 1-1-0), 3-2, in an entertaining match to close out SCAC play last weekend on Sunday afternoon in Irving. The Crusaders jumped out to a 1-0 lead when Kaitlyn Cline scored her first of the season off an assist from Courtney Bokanyi in the 34th minute. Texas Lutheran tied the game a 1-1 in the 59th minute when Samantha Martinez scored an unassisted goal but the Crusaders got back on top just over a minute later as Avery Seaman scored her second of the season in the 60th minute. The Bulldogs once again tied the game as Kelly Wolfe scored in the 74th minute off a feed from Mariela Candelario and got the game-winner in the 80th minute thanks to an unassisted goal from Nani Sanchez. Dallas held an advantage in shots, 14-10, while Texas Lutheran held the edge in corner kicks, 4-2.

SCAC returns to action this week with six fixtures, highlighted by four league matches. On Friday, Texas Lutheran will host St. Thomas and then on Saturday, Southwestern takes on Austin College in Sherman, Schreiner will host Trinity and Dallas hits the road for the first time this season to face Centenary.
