Trinity's Kohl, Liva Earn SCAC Male Swimmer and Diver of the Year Honors

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Trinity University teammates Michael Kohl and Anthony Liva were named the league's male Swimmer and Diver-of-the-Year, respectively, based on exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference. 2021 All-SCAC Men's Swim/Dive Team

Kohl, a freshman from Missouri City, Texas, won all three of his events at the 2021 SCAC Swimming and Diving Championships and earned Swimmer-of-the-Meet honors, becoming just the second freshman in league history to win that award. Kohl touched first in the 100 free (46.07), the 500 free (4:37.94) and the 100 back (50.05) with his finishing time in the latter representing the fourth-fastest swim in SCAC championship meet history. He was also on each of Trinity's five relay teams that swept first place honors and set new Walker Pool records in each event.

Kohl is just the third freshman in league history to earn Swimmer of the Year honors, following former Trinity swimmers Zach Coburn (2001) and Jacob Hurrell-Zitelman (2017). He is the eighth straight Trinity student-athlete to win the award and 13th overall since the league reintroduced swimming as an officially sponsored conference sport in 1998-99.

Liva, a senior from Arlington Heights, Ill., earned SCAC Diver-of-the-Meet honors for the second straight year, finishing in first place on the 3-meter board and in second on the 1-meter board to teammate Konstantine Partalas at this year's championship meet. He also earned Diver-of-the-Year honors in 2020, making him the eighth diver in league history with multiple DOTY awards. The award marks the sixth straight year a Trinity diver has earned the league's top honor.

Additionally, the Trinity University staff - led by fourth-year head coach Scott Trompeter, along with assistant coach John Ryan, assistant coach Kimberly Jones, and diving coach Stan Randall - earned SCAC Men's Coaching Staff-of-the-Year honors. It marks the third honor for Trompeter since he took over the TU program prior to the 2017-18 season.
