Nate Riddle, University of Dallas, Men's Soccer - Character & Community

NATE RIDDLE OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS,senior on the men’s soccer team from Millsboro, Delaware, has been selected the SCAC Character & Community Male Student-Athlete of the Week for the week beginning April 19.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

At the University of Dallas, Riddle has had the opportunity to serve two terms as a Resident Hall Association Representative where he was able to advocate for the students living in the residence halls in addition to planning, leading, and orchestrating the approved events.

He also served two terms as a Student Government Senator. In addition to voting on amendments, approving new club legislation, presenting faculty reports, and facilitating community building events on campus such as the annual event of PrimaFaira, Riddle was the liaison between the student government and the student body as we aided in the selection of the new University President.

Another campus organization that Riddle was an officer for was the Fellowship of Christian Athletes in which he organized community building activities, led small groups where he facilitated small group discussions, and reflected on personal testimonies given by guest speakers where we explored the role of faith and community in their own personal lives.

When Riddle went to Rome in the spring of 2020 as part of the UD curriculum, he earned a selection to be part of the unique opportunity to aid former NFL Quarterback Tim Tebow in the first ever “Night to Shine” in Rome. This event was an unforgettable prom night experience, centered around God’s love, for people with special needs ages 14 and older. Riddle participated in the event by taking photos with the “guests of honor” and escorting them up and down the red carpet.

Finally, a previous topic recognized a year ago for SCAC Character & Community was the “Groundhog Library” founded by previous Male Student-Athlete of the Week Edisson Ramos. Ramos was a senior when the library was founded, and Riddle was the Vice President at the time and has since taken on the project for his men’s soccer alumni and former teammate. Riddle’s dedication has helped the lending library by students for students to maintain the momentum it had.. The events sponsored are book drives at the beginning, middle, and end of each semester as the organization lends the books out to students who need them. The guidance of the Cowan Blakely Memorial Library has worked together with Riddle and students to ensure the necessary textbooks, including those with the UD CORE curriculum, are made accessible for all students at the school. The organization accepts monetary donations and book donations to help the Groundhog Library flourish and continue to serve the University of Dallas students in the future.

The four-year men’s soccer center defensive midfielder has been involved a lot at Dallas and thanks to the unique opportunities the school provides, he would not have otherwise gained these same experiences. Riddle has been inspired by these events to be involved in giving back at various levels in the world.
