TRAVIS HARVEY OF SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY, a senior left-handed pitcher from Cedar Park, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, March 7 through Sunday, March 13. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 5
Harvey was dominant in Southwestern's 3-0 win over Hardin-Simmons last weekend, posting his first complete-game shutout of the season, striking out 14 with just one walk and five hits allowed. The 14 strikeouts are tied for the 15th most in a single game in SCAC history and fifth in Southwestern program history.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
First-year right-hander Tyler Herrera of Centenary earned his second win of the season last week in a 17-7 victory over Millsaps. Herrera pitched three innings in relief and allowed just two hits with a walk and three strikeouts. He now has a team-low ERA of 1.64. Junior right-hander Chris Parsons of St. Thomas was outstanding last week, making two appearances, including a win over Belhaven as the Celts earned their first sweep of the season. In total Parsons scattered just four hits in 8.1 innings of work and struck out eight while posting an ERA of 0.00. First-year left-hander Zach Longshore of Texas Lutheran limited ETBU to just three hits, allowing just one earned run and striking out five batters in five innings of work to get the win for the Bulldogs. First-year right-hander Jack Martinez of Trinity notched his first collegiate victory as he pitched six solid innings in his first career start last week. Martinez struck out four batters and allowed just two runs on three hits. After giving up a pair of runs in the second, he threw four shutout innings to close his day and earn the win.
