RICHARDSON, Texas
– Concordia University Texas junior soccer student-athlete Dalaine Whitlock has been appointed to the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC), representing student-athletes from both the American Southwest Conference and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference on the national committee.

Whitlock begins her term of service immediately and runs through May 1, 2014. The Belton, Texas, native will join 24 other student-athletes from Division III institutions and athletic conference on the national SAAC and participate in student-athlete leadership conferences across the country, the NCAA Convention and conference calls. She succeeds Brooks Royer from Rhodes College as the ASC-SCAC representative.

Whitlock will work with the staffs of ASC Commissioner Amy Carlton and SCAC Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry to facilitate Division III SAAC communications and initiatives with their member SAAC groups.

“Being able to have a voice and help move student-athlete issues along on the national level is really exciting,” Whitlock said. “I love meeting new people and I have never been on a plane, so the travel will be a new experience.

Whitlock is a member of the Concordia Texas SAAC and represented her institution and the ASC at the 2011 NCAA Convention in San Antonio, Texas. Whitlock was one of just 10 student-athletes from the Division III membership to attend the national meeting. She participated in all convention activities ranging from education sessions to business sessions to the NCAA Honors Celebration.

“I believe attending the NCAA Convention really opened Dalaine’s eyes as to how educational, beneficial and enjoyable the experience of being on the national SAAC would be,” said ASC Assistant Commissioner and SAAC Advisor Greg Weghorst. “I have no doubt that she is the right choice and will do a tremendous job representing the ASC and SCAC.”

Whitlock is a soccer all-conference performer in 2010, starting all 18 games and spearheading 10 shutouts as the Tornados went a program-best 10-6-3 and clinched a berth in the ASC Championship Tournament. She maintained a grade-point average of better than 3.00 during the entire season, earning Academic All-Conference honors.

The mission of the NCAA Division III Student-Athlete Advisory Committee is to enhance the total student-athlete experience by promoting opportunity for all student-athletes; protecting student-athlete welfare; and fostering a positive student-athlete image, while maintaining the tenants of the Division III philosophy.
