SAN ANTONIO, Texas - The top-ranked Trinity Tigers
(19-2-1) will tangle with Lynchburg (Va.) (17-4-1) in the NCAA
Division III Men's Soccer Championship third round Saturday, Nov.
20, in Delaware, Ohio, at Ohio Wesleyan.
Second-ranked Ohio Wesleyan (18-1-2) meets No. 19 Johns Hopkins
(15-3-4) in the other third-round game. Trinity will play at 5
p.m. Eastern, while Ohio Wesleyan and Johns Hopkins play at 7:30
p.m. The third-round winners advance to the quarterfinals on
Sunday, with a 6 p.m. start.
Trinity will co-host, with San Antonio Sports, the NCAA men's and women's semifinals and finals Dec. 3-4 at Blossom Soccer Stadium.
The Tigers, led by 20th-year Head Coach Paul McGinlay, opened the NCAA playoffs with a 3-1 victory at home against Pacific (Ore.). First-year midfielder Yuri Ribeiro of Brazil registered a hat trick to lead the team to victory.
Trinity advanced to the third round in a tightly played home
game with Texas-Tyler. The score was tied at 0-0 after two overtime
periods, and the contest was decided in penalty kicks. Trinity
outscored Texas-Tyler 4-2 in the shootout, with the winning shot
made by junior
midfielder Zach
Garcia of Dallas (Lake Highlands).
The Tigers are competing in their 14th NCAA Tournament, including the ninth in a row. Trinity earned an automatic bid by capturing its 14th Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference title, with an 11-0-0 record.
Coach McGinlay led the Tigers to the NCAA Division III Men's
Soccer Championship in 2003, and a second-place finish in 2007.
