SUWANEE, Ga. - Led by NSCAA Men's College Scholar All-America selections Nathan Sprenkel of DePauw University and Christopher Schardon of Trinity University, the NSCAA honored eight other SCAC student athletes to Scholar All-Region Teams.
Sprenkel, a psychology major (3.30), was elected to the NSCAA College Division Scholar All-America First Team. Earlier, Sprenkel made the Scholar All-North/Central Team, the All-Great Lakes Region Team and the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Team. The junior goalkeeper led the DU Tiger defense that allowed just eight goals during the season (.44 per game), tops in the SCAC.
Schardon, a biochemistry major (3.47), was elected to the NSCAA College Division Scholar All-America Second Team. Earlier, Schardon made the Scholar All-South Region Team, the All-West Region Team, the All-Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Team, and the SCAC All-Sportsmanship Team. Schardon was a key member of the Tigers defense, which allowed only 18 goals during the season (.78 per game), and 62 shots on goal (2.70 per game).
Along with Sprenkel and Schardon, the SCAC had eight other student athletes named to the NSCAA Scholar All-Region Teams.
Thomas Barros, a senior marketing/spanish major (3.33) of Trinity; Duncan Keegan, a junior biology major (4.00) of Hendrix and Christopher Melton, a junior spanish/pyschology major (3.59) of Austin College were all named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South First Team.
Senior math major (3.79) Andrew Stein and junior psychology major (3.46) Tyler Evans both of Birmingham-Southern were named to the NSCAA Scholar All-South Second Team.
Carter McLean of Birmingham-Southern, Eric Stradley of Rhodes
and John Shelton of Birmingham-Southern earned Scholar All-South
Honorable Mention accolades.
