SCAC Champion Trinity Earns NCAA West Region Bid

INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. - Trinity University, the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference champions, earned the program's sixth appearance in the NCAA Division III Baseball Championship. The Tigers earned the No. 4 seed in the West Region and will compete in the West Region in Abilene, Texas. West Region Official Site

Trinity won the SCAC's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. It marks the third time in the last four years that the Tigers advanced to NCAA postseason play. The Tigers earned NCAA berths in 2002, 2004, 2006, 2008, 2010 as well as 2011.

Trinity (33-11) is joined in the West Region by No. 1 seed Linfield (Ore.) (31-9, Northwest Conference champion), No. 2 seed Chapman (Calif.) (29-11, Pool B at-large bid), No. 3 seed Redlands (Calif.) (29-11, Southern California Intercollegiate Athletic Conference champion), No. 5 seed Texas-Tyler (33-6, Pool C at-large bid) and No. 6 seed Concordia (Texas) (30-15, American Southwest Conference champion).

The Tigers will open up NCAA regional play on Wednesday, May 18 at 7 p.m. CT against Redlands (Calif.).

Linfield (Ore.) (31-9) is the top regional seed, and will play No. 6 Concordia (Texas) (30-15) in the opening game at noon Wednesday. Second-seeded Chapman (Calif.) (29-11) meets No. 5 Texas-Tyler (33-6) at 3:30 p.m.
 
The winner of the Trinity/Redlands game plays at 7 p.m. Thursday, against the Chapman/Texas-Tyler winner. The Trinity/Redlands loser takes on the Linfield/Concordia winner at 3:30 p.m.
 
A maximum of 11 games will be played at the regional tournament, with the final slated for noon Saturday. If necessary, a second game will take place.

The winner of the regional event, which concludes Saturday, will advance to the NCAA Division III Baseball Championships May 27-31 at Appleton, Wis. A total of 55 teams are competing at eight regional sites to earn a trip to Appleton.
