SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head
coaches in the league, Bobby Cocanougher of Trinity University has
been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC)
Men’s Tennis Player-of-the-Year – the fourth straight
year a Trinity player has earned the honor. In that same balloting,
Trinity’s Russell McMindes was voted Men’s
Coach-of-the-Year for the second straight year.
Cocanougher, a senior from Southlake, Texas, is ranked ninth in the
West Region in Singles and third in doubles. He holds a 15-7 at #2
singles and a 16-8 record at #1 doubles during dual matches this
season. For his dual match career, Bobby is 47-39 in singles play,
and 70-24 in doubles (with Cory Kowal).
Cocanougher has been an all-American all four years at Trinity,
and last fall won the USTA/ITA National Small College Doubles
Championship with Kowal. The Tiger duo have won the ITA Regional
Doubles Championship three times in their careers. In 2009,
Cocanougher and Kowal advanced to the NCAA Doubles Semifinals, and
last spring, the duo made it to the NCAA Division III Doubles
Championship.
For the second time in his career, Trinity’s McMindes has
been recognized by his peers as the SCAC Men’s Tennis
Coach-of-the-Year. McMindes’ 11th-ranked Tigers earned the
program’s 16th SCAC title after defeating 17th-ranked DePauw,
6-3, in the 2011 SCAC championship match. McMindes, in his second
season as head coach, has compiled a 30-21 record at Trinity and
will guide the Tigers to their 18th NCAA Tournament appearance
since 1993.
