Michael Smosna, McMurry University, Hitter of the Week (Week 7)

MICHAEL SMOSNA OF MCMURRY UNIVERSITY, a junior catcher from Lubbock, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Hitter of the Week of the Week for games played from Monday, March 17 through Sunday, March 23. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 7

Smosna was superb at the plate last week, leading the War Hawks to a 3-1 record, including an SCAC series win on the road at St. Thomas. Smosna finished the week with a blistering .533 average, going 8-for-15, with two home runs, one triple, four doubles and nine RBI. He scored six runs, stole one base and added a walk to post a .588 on-base percentage. Smosna finished the week seven extra base hits, three multiple hit efforts and an outstanding 1.333 slugging percentage. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Sophomore infielder Jack Wilhelm of Austin College was outstanding last week, hitting .556 in four games and helping the 'Roos to the program's first win over Texas Lutheran since 2017. In that game, Wilhelm went 4-for-6 and drove in a pair of runs, and had at least two hits in every game in which he appeared last week. He finished the week scoring six runs and driving in five more, boasting a .579 on-base percentage and a .611 slugging percentage as the 'Roos went 2-2 in the games in which he appeared. Sophomore first baseman Alex Miller of Centenary was red-hot for the Diamond Gents this past weekend at Concordia as he finished 5-for-10 (.500) with two RBI, two doubles, two BB, and a run scored with two stolen bases. Miller had a pair of multi-hit games and at least one hit in all three games of the series. Junior first baseman/outfielder Colby Christian of Concordia put together another terrific display at the plate for the Tornados last week. In the four games, Christian totaled team-highs of nine runs, six RBI, two homers, and two stolen bases. He also averaged .471 (1.000 SLUG) with an on base percentage of .550. Junior infielder Langdon Townsend of Ozarks led the Eagles at the plate last week in a three-game homestand against Trinity. Townsend batted .462, going 6-for-13 with a home run, four RBI, three runs scored and three stolen bases. Senior infielder AJ Rodriguez of Schreiner helped the Mountaineers secure a series win over Dallas last weekend. Rodriguez hit .400 (6-for-15) with a triple, nine RBI, three runs scored and a .533 slugging percentage. He recorded an even three RBI in each of the three games last week for the Mountaineers.  Junior outfielder Mason Goudeau of Texas Lutheran led the Bulldogs to a 3-1 week, highlighted by an SCAC series win over Austin College. Goudeau hit .471 on the week, going 8-for-17 with a double, a triple and three RBI. He scored four runs, added two stolen bases and posted a .474 on-base percentage and .647 slugging percentage on the week. Senior catcher Nicholas Lazzara of Trinity batted .579 (11-of-19) over the five games, scoring three runs and driving in six more. He also drew five walks to boost his on-base percentage to .680, and hit four doubles among his 11 hits to notch a .789 slugging percentage. Lazzara had two or more hits in all but one game over the week, saving his best for the conference series during which he hit 7-of-11 (.636) with five RBI in the three Tiger wins.
