Hendrix's Mesnil; DePauw's Riggle Tabbed as SCAC Player & Coach of the Year

SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the head coaches in the league, Claire Mesnil of Hendrix College has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Year. In that same balloting, DePauw University's Scott Riggle was voted Women's Coach-of-the-Year.

Mesnil, a first-year player from Avignon, France posted a 19-2 singles record (16-3 doubles) and was ranked second in the West region in singles play. In the fall, Mesnil won the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Division III Southwest Region championship. She went on to finish fifth at the ITA National Small College Championship. Mesnil became the first Hendrix player (men’s or women’s) to be named SCAC Player-of-the-Year. She finished the regular season 7-0 against SCAC opponents in singles play.

For the fifth time in seven years, DePauw’s Riggle has been recognized by his peers as the SCAC Women’s Tennis Coach-of-the-Year. Only Butch Newman of Trinity (eight times) has more women’s tennis COTY awards than Riggle. Riggle’s 12th-ranked Tigers earned their second straight SCAC title after defeating 22nd-ranked Trinity, 9-0, in the SCAC championship match. Riggle has compiled a 161-64 record in nine seasons at DePauw, including this year’s 16-8 mark, and led the Tigers to the NCAA Tournament for the fifth consecutive year.
