JACOB MASON OF TRINITY UNIVERSITY, a junior from Westminster, Colo., has been selected the SCAC Men’s Golfer-of-the-Week for competition played from Wednesday, September 6 through Tuesday, September 12. SCAC Golf Release (Week 1)
Mason opened the 2023-24 season with a bang, earning medalist honors at the TLU/John Bohmann Memorial Invitational to lead the Tigers to a third-place team finish. After firing a three-round total of 207 (68-68-71), Mason found himself tied for individual honors following the 54th hole, setting up a playoff with Oliver Gasford of OLLU. Teeing off on No. 10, each player carded a par on the opening playoff hole before Mason birded No. 18 to claim his first medalist honor of the year on the second playoff hole.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
First-year Ricky Mitchell of Southwestern led the Pirates to the team title at the TLU/John Bohmann Memorial Invitational, finished tied for third firing a three-round total of 208 (-5) highlighted by the lowest recorded round of the tournament with a 65 in round one. Junior Tobey Wills of Texas Lutheran paced the Bulldogs at their home TLU/John Bohmann Memorial Invitational, finishing tied for third with a 5-under par finish of 208. Wills dazzled the field in the opening day with back-to-back rounds of 67 and 66. Drew Hermesmeyer of Schreiner turned in an eighth-place finish at the TLU/John Bohmann Memorial Invitational to lead the Mountaineers with a total score of 215, highlighted by an opening round of 69. Junior Marshall Hatcher of St. Thomas finished tied for 11th at the TLU/John Bohmann Memorial Invitational with a three-round total of 218, including identical opening rounds of 71 on Monday. Sophomore Iain Griggs of Dallas paced the Crusaders at the at the Tempest Intercollegiate by finishing tied for ninth with a three round total of 220 (+4).
