SCAC Trio Earn D3Hoops.com All-Region Honors

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. -- D3hoops.com released the 2022-23 All-Region teams Tuesday morning and three Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s basketball players earned a spot on the Region 10 All-Region team.

University of St. Thomas’ Calvin Williams IV, Centenary College’s Seth Thomas and Trinity University’s AJ Clark all earned Second Team Region 10 All-Region honors.

Williams IV, sophomore guard from Spring, Texas was named the SCAC Player of the Year and earned four conference Player of the Week honors this season. He played and started in all 27 games for the Celts, averaging 15.1 points per game (fourth in the SCAC) which included a conference-best 17.3 points per game in league play. He is also among the conference leaders in steals (50 – second), points (407 – third) and assists (63 – ninth). Williams scored in double figures in 14 games during the regular season, and he had eight games where he topped 20 points, including the Feb. 4 game against Dallas where he had a season-high 27 points to lead St. Thomas to a 65-62 come-from-behind victory – a victory that clinched the regular season conference title for the Celts.

Thomas had another outstanding season for the Gents as he averaged 15.2 PPG and 7.5 RPG, both team bests, and earned First-Team All-SCAC honors. He also received votes for Player of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year as he started all 27 of Centenary's games and averaged 31.2 MPG and shot a team-best 50.9 percent from the floor. Thomas finished the regular season ranked third in the conference in scoring and fourth in rebounding. He was also second in minutes played, fourth in FT percentage, in the top five in both offensive and defensive rebounds, tied for sixth in steals, eighth in FG percentage, 11th in assists, and 14th in blocked shots.

Clark is the fourth different Tiger in the history of the award (2001-02) to be named to an all-region squad, following repeat third-team selections for Sean Devins '05, a 2014 second-team selection for Robert Kitzinger '14 and a first-team nod in 2022 for Enzo Sechi. The fifth-year wing averaged 13.6 points, 5.8 rebounds and 3.3 assists per contest this season, all of which led the Trinity roster en route to the program's 13th 20-win season, the 11th since 1997-98. Clark earned the SCAC Defensive Player of the Year on top of his All-SCAC first-team recognition, as well as his third straight SCAC Elite 19 award—given to the all-conference student-athlete with the highest grade-point average with more than 60 credit hours in each SCAC-sponsored sport.

Players were nominated for these awards by the Sports Information Directors at the various schools, and schools and conferences were each contacted multiple times as the season wound down to remind them to make their players eligible. There were 798 players nominated nationwide. The ballot was then made available to SIDs, who voted for a predetermined number of players in their region.

It's the 22nd season D3hoops.com has named All-Region teams. The regional Rookie of the Year award honors the top freshman in each region, while D3hoops.com also names a regional Coach of the Year.

Division III basketball is organized into 10 regions. A region with 40 teams or more has three All-Region teams honored, while a region with fewer than 40 teams has a first and second team. This reorganization results in approximately 10 additional players being recognized when compared to previous full seasons.

Players from these lists are eligible for the D3hoops.com All-America teams. The men's team will be released March 18, at the national championship game, and the women's team will be released at a predetermined time between the national semifinals on March 18 and the title game on April 1.
