Trinity 12th, St. Thomas 16th, Heading Into the Final Round of the NCAA Men's Golf Championships

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. – Heading into the final round of the 2023 NCAA Division III Men’s Golf National Championship, Trinity moved into 12th, while St. Thomas dropped to 16th with just 18 holes remaining at the prestigious event. Live Stats | Live Video 

The Tigers fired a third-round team score of 298 (+10) and carry a three round cumulative score of 887 (+23) into the final 18 holes. Trinity enters the final round just two shots off a spot in the top 10. On the week, the Tigers have combined for 47 birdies which is tied for fifth best in the field. The Celts carded a team score of 313 (+25), dropping one spot in the standings and enter Friday seven shots back of a spot in the top 15 with a three-day team total of 903 (+39). Methodist surged to the top of the team standings after firing the lowest score (291) on Thursday and will take a four-shot lead into Friday’s final round.  

Trinity’s Jacob Mason now leads all SCAC golfers after firing his second even par round of 72 in three days, climbing 14 spots to sit tied for 11th with a three day total of 217 (+1). Mason finished his third round with six birdies and will head into the final round just one shot back of a spot in the top-10 and six shots back of the leader Robb Kinder of Chrsitopher Newport (212, -5).

St. Thomas’ Jonathan Miller continues to pace the Celts following his second-straight 75 on Thursday. Miller now sits just inside the top-20, tied for 18th with a three-day total of 218 (+2). Miller and Trinity’s Mason are both tied for the third for the most birdies on the week in the entire field with 13 each.

The final day of competition start Friday morning as both Trinity and St. Thomas are scheduled to tee off on hole 10. The Tigers will be paired with Illinois Wesleyan and Washington & Lee, while the Celts will be playing alongside Willamette and Emory.
