CHRIS PARSONS OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a junior right-handed pitcher from Katy, Texas, has been named the SCAC Baseball Pitcher of the Week for games played from Monday, April 25 through Sunday, May 1. SCAC Baseball Release - Week 12
Trying to qualify for the SCAC Tournament for the first time in program history and with their backs against the wall, Parsons delivered in a big way last Saturday on the mound for the Celts. He pitched a complete game, his third consecutive start of seven or more innings in an 11-1 win, setting the table for the tournament clinching victory later that day. He allowed just a single hit in eight innings of work and stuck out eight batters in the process. Parsons in now 3-0 down the stretch in his last three starts with an impressive 28 strikeouts in 26 innings of action.
Other Outstanding Performances in the SCAC:
Senior pitcher Ben Ludwig of Southwestern tossed a complete game-shutout in his final appearance on the mound for the Pirates last Saturday. Ludwig allowed just five hits without administering a single walk and struck out 10 batters in Southwestern’s 10-0 win over Dallas. Junior right-hander Joe Burch of Texas Lutheran tossed 8.1 innings of shutout baseball, striking out six, to lead the Bulldogs to a 3-0 victory over Schreiner last Friday evening. Sophomore right-hander Joseph Chavana of Trinity posted his fourth complete-game effort of the season in the opener of a three-game series sweep over Austin College last weekend to clinch the SCAC Regular Season Championship. Chavana is the first Tiger player since 2013 to record four or more complete games in a season, accomplishing that feat in just five games started this year. Chavana scattered eight hits and allowed just one run over nine innings of work in Friday's season opener, tying the team-high with 11 strikeouts to improve to 8-1 this season.
