DANIEL CASTRO OF THE UNIVERSITY OF ST. THOMAS, a sophomore forward from Cypress, Texas, has been named the SCAC Men’s Soccer Offensive Player of the Week for games played from Monday, September 12th through Sunday, September 18th. SCAC Men's Soccer Release (Week 3)
Castro has an impressive two-game stretch for the Celts factoring in on four of the five goals, finishing the week with three goals and one assist for seven total points to lead the SCAC. In the Celts opening fixture on Friday, Castro opened the scoring in a 1-1 draw against Southwestern, scoring in the 18th minute. He then returned Sunday to assist on the game-winning mark and added two insurance goals in a 4-0 win over ETBU. Castro is now second in the SCAC in both goals and points with six and 14 respectively.
Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Senior midfielder Jaron Petreas of Centenary continued his recent scoring barrage as he scored a pair of goals this past week, his third and fourth of the season. He recorded his team-leading fourth goal of the season and ninth of his career in the Gents' 1-1 tie at home versus LeTourneau on Sunday after scoring one in a 3-2 loss at Belhaven on Tuesday. Senior forward Kevin Peterson of Colorado College rang home an absolute rocket to secure a CC, 3-1, win over Trinity last Saturday. It marked the first win over Trinity since 2019 for Colorado College. Junior midfielder Noah Boggus of Schreiner recorded his first career hat-trick in the Mountaineers 5-2 win over Sul Ross St. last Sunday. It marks just the second Schreiner athlete to record a hat-trick since the Mountaineers joined the SCAC. Senior forward Luis Green of Texas Lutheran scored two goals in the Bulldogs’ 4-0 shutout win over McMurry last Sunday. Green in now TLU’s all-time goals leader and is currently tied for third all-time in SCAC history. Junior midfielder Joseph Kuri of Trinity scored the lone goal of the day for the Tigers in a 3-1 loss to Colorado College last Saturday.
