Trinity University Slides One Spot in D3hoops.com Top 25

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Trinity University's women's basketball team posted a 2-1 record since the previous D3hoops.com Top 25 was released, but a loss to ninth-ranked UT-Tyler (11-1) dropped the Tigers one spot to #20. 

After victories over McMurry and LeTourneau, the Tigers fell 62-45 to the No. 9 Patriots at the UT-Tyler Christmas Classic. The loss marked Trinity's first loss to a Division III opponent this season.

The Tigers still post the top overall record in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference at 9-2 and are currently leading the league in defensive points allowed (55.5), steals (10.4 per game), and 3-point field goals made (7.0 per game). This season, Trinity has held opponents to just 31.7% shooting.

Senior forward Anecia Richardson leads Trinity in scoring and is currently shooting 50% from the field and 73% from the stripe. Junior guard Monica Holguin has also been a bright spot for the Tigers offense averaging a team-best 12.6 points per game on 40% shooting.

The latest USA TODAY Sports Top 25 has Trinity climbing one spot from No. 24 to No. 23. The USA TODAY Sports committee of coaches is made up of nine head coaches at Division III institutions. All are members of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA).

The Tigers open conference play on Friday, January 8th at Colorado College
