Trinity Women Back in SCAC Title Game After 90-77 Victory Over Austin College

SHERMAN, Texas - Top-seeded Trinity's relentless attack eventually wore down a game Austin College squad and the Tigers advanced to the program's 10th straight SCAC title game with a 90-77 victory Saturday evening at the 2022 SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Official Tournament Website | Photo Gallery | Postgame Interview

Playing on its home floor, Austin College jumped out to a six point lead (13-7) midway through the first quarter but Trinity closed the period on a 17-9 run to take a 24-22 lead and never trailed again. 

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Trinity shot 50.0 percent in the first half (17-34) to take a 45-34 lead into the lockeroom, and finished the game at 55.7 percent (34-61) after nailing 17 of 27 shots from the field in the second half. 
  • The Tigers set a new SCAC single-game tournament record with 16 three-point field goals made, besting the old mark of 12 which had been set by Sewanee in 2008.
  • Trinity's depth was one of the key storylines as the Tigers' bench outscored Austin College's reserves, 40-4. 
  • Trinity also had advantages in second chance points (14-5) and points in the paint (36-28) but Austin held a significant advantage in points off turnovers (24-9).

NOTABLES
  • The win was the 23rd straight by Trinity, which is now the second-longest winning streak by a conference team in SCAC women's basketball history. DePauw University won 28 straight games en route to the NCAA Sectional Final in 2005-06.
  • Ashlyn Milton's 25-point effort matched her second-highest scoring output of the season. She and Austin College's Kacie West both had six three-pointers in the game, just one off the all-time conference tournament record of seven, established by Oglethorpe's Anna Findley against Southwestern at the 2007 championship.
  • This marked the third straight year Trinity and Austin College have met in the SCAC tournament. The 'Roos beat the Tigers (76-67) for the 2020 SCAC Championship and Trinity eliminated Austin College (70-60) in the semifinal round a year ago.
  • Trinity will be making its 10th straight and 15th overall - both program records for the SCAC tournament modern era. Trinity is 7-7 all-time in SCAC champinship games.
  • Austin College ends its season with a 10-16 record.
