Austin College's Thiele's All-American Honor Highlights Night Three at NCAA Championships

GREENSBORO, N.C. – Austin College senior Sammi Thiele’s All-American performance in the 100-yard backstroke highlighted SCAC women’s performances at day three of the 2024 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina. NCAA Championship Site | Live Results

Thiele collected her second individual All-American honor of the meet after hitting the wall in third with an SCAC open record time of 54.73. She finished fourth in the 200-yard IM on Wednesday evening. In the morning prelim session, Thiele qualified sixth with a time of 55.59, before dropping nearly a second in the championship swim, exploding through the water and into the top three on the podium. Thiele is just the third swimming in SCAC women’s swimming history to earn All-American honors in the 100-yard backstroke and the first since Sarah Ayers of Southwestern finished seventh in 2011. Her third-place finish marks the highest in league history in this event.

Other individual highlights from day three included, Trinity’s Emma Hagan just missing out on qualifying for the night session, finishing 18th in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 2:04.55. Her teammate, Kyla Foxhoven finished 23rd in the 100-yard breaststroke, hitting the wall in 1:04.32.

In the relay events, the Trinity women’s program collected its third All-American honor of the week, finishing 15th in the 800-yard freestyle relay to earn Honorable Mention All-American accolades. The Tiger quartet of Hagan, Amy Benson, Neely Burns and Audrey Jacobson hit the wall in a time of 7:34.29. This year marks the second-straight championship Trinity has earned All-American honors in the 800-freestyle relay, the first time in SCAC history any program has earned AA accolades in consecutive championships in the event.

Heading into the final day of competition, Trinity currently sits in 11th-place on the women’s side with 63 points, while Austin College has jumped into the top-20 in 19th with 31 points. On the men’s side, Trinity is tied for 30th with 17 total points.

The 2024 NCAA Men’s and Women’s Swimming and Diving Championships conclude on Saturday with prelims scheduled to start at 10 AM ET and finals set for 6 PM ET. Follow along all of the action at ncaa.com.
