AC's Burke; TLU's Fritzsche Earns SCAC Cross Country Runners of the Week

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Austin College's Chris Burke and Texas Lutheran University's Sarah Fritzsche were named SCAC Cross Country Runners of the Week for week two of the XC season.








 

SCAC MEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Meets through Saturday, Septemeber 6th

CHRIS BURKE OF AUSTIN COLLEGE, a senior from Denton, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Men's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run through Saturday, Septemeber 6th.

Burke competed as a member of Austin College first men's team this past weekend and his first meet collegiately as an athlete at the UT-Tyler Invitational.

Burke finished in a time of 17:36 for 22nd place on the hilly and challenging course to lead the 'Roo men.

He is the first Austin College cross country runner, man or woman, to receive Runner of the Week honors. 

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Ricky Canales of Schreiner University shaved six seconds off his average mile pace from just a week ago, and chased down a runner the final 200m to finish 22nd. Junior Alex Medrano of Southwestern University, racing in very humid conditions, placed ninth overall (top DIII finish) with a season best time of 17:38.99.


SCAC WOMEN'S CROSS COUNTRY RUNNER OF THE WEEK
Meets through Saturday, Septemeber 6th 

SARAH FRITZSCHE OF TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY, a sophomore from San Antonio, Texas, has been selected the SCAC Women's Cross Country Runner-of-the-Week for meets run through Saturday, Septemeber 6th.

Fritzsche led the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs to a second place finish among non-DI schools at the TLU Invite this past Saturday.

Fritzsche finished second overall among all Divisions, and first overall among Division II and III teams  on an over-distance course (3.22 mi). She finished with a time of 20:15.

Other outstanding performances in the SCAC:
Freshman Alex Quinn of Austin College competed in her first collegiate event, running a time of 22:47 finishing in 27th place.  Junior Allyson Graybill of Schreiner University shaved six seconds off her mile pace from just a week ago to finish 18th, running seven minutes faster in this 5k race than last season's 5k race at the SCAC Championships. Freshman Emily Boujemaa of Southwestern University placed fourth overall, crossing the finish line in a season best time of 20:33.21 at the Texas Lutheran Invite.
