Men's XC Recap (Week 7) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five of the eight SCAC men's cross country teams were in action this past weekend.

Austin College
The Austin College men finished seventh out of nine participating squads at the inaugural East Texas Baptist University Invitational this past Saturday in Marshall, Texas. Chris Burke had an outstanding run, posting an eighth place finishing time of 29:18.48 over the 8k course. Alex Berghorn (33:38.87 - 31st), Julio Torres (37:19.80 - 45th) and Eric Garza (38:59.65 - 47th) all finished in the top 50. The 'Roos return to action next Saturday when they host the Austin College Invite (Oct. 18). 

University of Dallas
The University of Dallas cross country team finished fifth out of the nine participating teams at the inaugural East Texas Baptist University cross country meet. UD was just eight points out of third place. Javier Secaira paced the Crusaders with an 11th place finish in the 8k event with a finishing time of 29:56.76. Ryan McAnany was 18th in a time of 31:24.01. Jack Grubner posted a top 20 finish, coming in 20th with a time of 31:27.55, and Gabriel Marasigan (32:37.76 - 27th) and Aaron French (33:16.70 - 30th) rounded out the scoring for Dallas. Next up for the Crusaders is a visit to SCAC member Austin College and Sherman, Texas for the Austin College Invite on Oct. 18.

Southwestern University
With only four runners participating, the Southwestern men did not score but the competition at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational did provide much needed prep as the Pirates position themselves for the upcoming SCAC Championship meet. Alex Medrano paced the Pirates, finishing in 57th place (among 171 participants) with a time of 26:55.9 on the 8 kilometer course. Newcomer Abraham Devenport was in 124th in a time of 30:17.40 and Kyle Bauernschmitt was 143rd in a time of 32:11.30. Joseph Quintero posted a finishing time of 35:27.60 and a 161st place finish. Southwestern closes the regular season at the Concordia (Texas) Invitational on October 18th in Cedar Park, Texas.

Texas Lutheran University
The Texas Lutheran men's cross country team posted a ninth-place team finish Saturday morning at the University of the Incarnate Word Cross Country Invitational, contested at Live Oak State Park. The Bulldogs collected 246 total points, placing behind eighth-place McMurry (168) and ahead of 10th-place Concordia Texas (291). Fourteen total men's teams competed at the UIW meet. Freshman Travis Koenig led the Bulldogs with an overall finish of 76th. Koenig completed the 8K course in 27 minutes, 37.8 seconds. Rudy Calderon, another freshman for TLU, was 89th overall with a time of 28:05.3. Bond Birkner, a sophomore, came home in 92nd with a time of 28:16.5. Rounding out the Bulldogs' top five were freshmen Donald Manuszewski and Jonathan Beal, who posted times of 28:34.9 and 29:36.3. Manuszewski was 98th overall, and Beal was 116th overall. TLU will close out its regular season at the Concordia (Texas) Invitational next Saturday.

Trinity University
The Trinity University men’s cross country squad finished fourth among non-Division I teams Saturday at the University of the Incarnate Word Invitational. The Tiger men amassed 98 points, behind Tarleton State University, Texas A&M University-Kingsville, and Texas Wesleyan University. A total of 14 teams competed in the non-Division I 8k event. Junior Taylor Piske finished ninth overall in the men’s field, and fourth in non-Division I, at 25:06.7. Sophomore Austin Brown placed 41st and 18th, respectively, crossing the finish line in 26:32.5. First-year runners Michael Erickson and Daniel Henkes crossed the line in 58th and 59th place (overall) in times of 27:03.7 and 27:04.9, respectively. Next up for the Trinity men is the Concordia (Texas) University Invitational at Cedar Park, Texas on Oct. 18.

Centenary College, Colorado College and Schreiner University did not compete this weekend.
