LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference announces the Texas Lutheran University Bulldogs as the winner of the SCAC Trending competition for the week of Monday, September 29 through Sunday, October 5.
The Bulldogs earned their third win of the year by accumulating 356 points. The point totals for each institution are based on the usage of a designated school-specific hashtag. The Bulldogs have not fallen below second place through the first five weeks of competition.
The defending winner, Austin College, fell to second place this week, earning 221 points. The University of Dallas moved to their highest finish in the competition so far by getting 197 points.
Every school in the SCAC saw follower increases on Twitter and Instagram. The TLU Instagram account (@TLUBulldogs) hit the 1,000 follower mark, higher than any other SCAC Instagram account. The SCAC’s Instagram (@scac_sports) was able to reach 600 followers this weekend, after beginning the SCAC Trending competition with just over 150.
Points were tallied by hashtag usage on Twitter and Instagram, with one point awarded for every time the school's designated hashtag was used in a tweet and two points each time a it was used in an Instagram picture taken at a school-sponsored sporting event.
Due to the upcoming SCAC 8-in-8 trip, the winning school will not nominate student-athletes to take over the SCAC Instagram account.
