SHERMAN, Texas - The Austin College Athletics Department will be growing this fall as the 'Roos add men's cross country to its roster of varsity sports, athletics director David Norman has announced. With the addition of men's cross country, Austin College's sports sponsorship increases to 14 teams.

"We're excited to have the opportunity to expand our program and provide more chances for our student-athletes to compete at a high level," said Norman. "With head coach Matt Buchhorn's expertise and experience, this will allow us to expand in a way that is beneficial both for our department and for our student-athletes."

Last year, the Austin College Athletics Department brought back women's cross country as a varsity sport. Buchhorn, who is in his first year at the helm of both cross country programs, will be leading the men's and women's cross country teams into their first action of the season this Friday when they travel to Tyler to participate in the University of Texas-Tyler Invitational at 6:30 p.m.

Later this season, the 'Roos will be hosting their first meet since bringing back the cross country programs as they welcome teams to Sherman for the Austin College Invitational, which will be run at Pecan Grove Park on Saturday, October 18.

Austin College athletic teams participate as a member of the NCAA Division III and the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.
