Lavietes earned All-Region status by placing in the top 35
finishers and also earned a trip to the NCAA National meet (Nov.
22) by virtue of finishing in the top seven runners not associated
with the top two teams.
SCAC Runner of the Year, sophomore Leah Wessler, also earned
All-Region honors with her 26th-place finish in a time of
23:13.35.
Following Lavietes and Wesller was sophomore Stefani Messick who
placed 37th (23:31.58) and sophomore Allison Crimmins who was 39th
(23:35.71). Rounding out the CC runners was sophomore Katie
Sandfort (56th - 23:59.94), freshman Patty Atkinson (64th -
24:22.42) and junior Beryl Coulter (79th - 24:49.50).
Colorado College was the only SCAC school that competed in the West Regional.
MOUNT BERRY, Ga. - Trinity University senior
Nicola Hill came tantalizingly close to qualifying for nationals,
placing 10th overall and just one slot from that elusive national
qualifying position as she and her Tiger teammates paced all SCAC
schools at the South/Southeast Regional with a sixth place team
finish. Hill earned All-Region honors with a finishing time of
22.52.86. South/Southeast Regional Complete Results
When the first scores were posted, Centre College was believed to
be the second place team (and therefore the recipient of an
automatic team berth to the National meet), which would have meant
an individual bid for Hill, since she would have been sixth among
individuals whose teams did not qualify for nationals. The top
seven individuals at each of the eight regionals that are not
associated with the top two finishing teams receive at-large berths
to the National meet.
However, a protest by Christopher Newport University was upheld
with the result pushing CNU past Centre into second place, which
also pushed Hill out of the top seven individual slots.
Joining Hill on the All-Region team was teammate freshman Melissa
Whiteman, who finished in 20th in a time of 23:11.83. Rounding out
Trinity's runners, freshman Emma MacEachern placed 31st (23:33.23),
junior Mariana Sigala was 42nd (23:44.42), senior Genevieve Primeau
finished 44th (23:47.86), senior Autumn Kervella placed 60th
(24:13.79) and senior Michelle Oberndorf was 86th (24:59.24). The
Tigers, after winning the last two South/Southeast Regionals,
placed sixth with a team score of 147 - just five points out of
fifth and 10 points from fourth.
University of Dallas finished 16th with a team score of 454. The
Crusaders were led by senior Claire Myers who finished in 49th with
a time of 23:55.00.
Rounding out the Dallas roster, junior Ruth Fritz finished in
77th place with a time of 24:40.90, senior Colleen Slattery was
95th in a time of 25:10.40, senior Meghan Falconer finished 111th
in a time of 25:30.69, senior Danielle Pajak placed 123rd in a time
