LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Trinity University is set to host the 2014 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Men's and Women's Cross Country Championships on Saturday, November 1st at Boerne City Lake Park right outside of San Antonio, Texas. Official Site | Course Map
As last season's champion, the Trinity women will look to make it three-in-a-row on the 6K course while seven other conference schools will look to dethrone the two-time defending champions. Here is a preview of all eight SCAC teams competing this weekend.
AUSTIN COLLEGE

New faces have sparked the Austin College 'Roos women's cross country team in 2014, a team that finished seventh at last season's SCAC Championship. The freshmen trio of Alex Quinn, Eden Llmas, and Hailee Meiners have been the top performers for the 'Roos all season. In their lone 6K performance at the East Texas Baptist Invitational, Quinn, Llamas, and Meiners all finished in the Top 20 with Quinn and Llamas coming in under 28 minutes.
Meanwhile, two runners return to the SCAC Championship in senior Sally Humphries and sophomore Zerlina Fung. Humphries had the top finish for Austin College a year ago, placing 34th with a time of 27:29.8 while Fung was third for the 'Roos, finished with a time of 28:13.7 and a 37th place finish. Both runners put together a great regular season and will look to improve on their time and place in 2014.
CENTENARY COLLEGE

The Centenary Ladies return a veteran group of runners to the 2014 SCAC Championship, led by senior Christy Wolterman who has the Ladies top time in the 6K in 2014. Wolterman has been the team's fastest or second fastest runner in all four events in 2014. She finished 39th a season ago with a time of 28:27.7 and a 39th place finish.
The Ladies will also look for key performances from seniors Kayla Thornhill and Catherine Shackelford - two runners who have finished in the team's top three in every race in 2014. Thornhill looks to improve on her 47th place finish in last season's championship race. Sophomore Brittany Wagner and senior Heather Wilson will also be counted on to score this upcoming weekend.
COLORADO COLLEGE

Colorado College, last season's runner-up at the SCAC Championship, returns in 2014 looking to make a push for the conference crown. The Tigers have the top 6K time coming into the weekend as sophomore Leah Wessler is over 45 seconds ahead of the next best time which also comes from Colorado College - senior Rebecca Lavietes with a 6K time of 23:47.0. The two runners have been outstanding all season and look to conitnue their great performances this weekend. Lavietes was the top runner for the CC Tigers last season, finishing sixth with a time of 23:10 while Wessler came in 11th with a time of 23:39.3.
The Tigers also have strong 6K performances this season from sophomore Allison Crimmins (24:40.0), sophomore Katie Sandfort (24:46.0), and senior Camille Febve (24:50.0). Crimmins and Sandfort earned Colorado College points in last season's run and look to do the same in 2014.
UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS

The University of Dallas women's squad comes to Boerne in 2014 fresh off a fourth-place finish a year ago as the Crusaders aim to make a splash in 2014. Senior Clare Myers returns and looks to earn All-Conference honors after finishing 15th a year ago, just one spot out of All-SCAC considerations. She has been the top runner for Dallas all season long, earning three Top 10 and two Top Five finishes in 2014.
Junior Ruth Fritz returns from injury in 2014, coming off a third place finish just a week ago at the Austin College Invite and a top finish of 24:55.8 in th 6K. Dallas also returns seniors Danielle Pajak, Meghan Falconer, and Colleen Slattery as they look to make an impact in 2014.
SCHREINER UNIVERSITY

Schreiner, entering their second year in the SCAC, is hoping to improve on its eighth place finish in 2013. Freshman Devan Aguilar has been one of the top runners in the 6K this season, finishing with a time of 24:05.4 earlier in the fall. The newcomer will look to make a run for All-Conference honors as well as the Newcomer of the Year award.
Joining her is a pair of veteran runners in senior Adriana Mercado and junior Alliona Fay, both whom placed a season ago for the Mountaineers and have put together solid performances in their 6K events this season. Junior Allyson Graybill, who competed at conference a year ago, also returns. Junior Miranda Reagan will also look to make an impact in the upcoming weekend.
SOUTHWESTERN UNIVERSITY

Southwestern lost four of its five top runners from a year ago at the SCAC Championship due to graduation. The Pirates only have one junior and are made up of sophomores and freshmen in 2014. Freshman Emily Boujemaa has been the team's top performer all season long, top finishes throughout the seasons.
Following Boujemaa is a trio of sophomores in Danielle King, Brianna Timourian, and Valerie Vacek. Vacek was the only one of the three to compete at the SCAC Championship a year ago, finishing in 36th with a time of 28:10.5. All three have made a huge impact on the Pirates team throughout the 2014 season. Sophomore Tori McGraw also competed a season ago at the SCAC Championship and will look to improve her time this upcoming weekend.
TEXAS LUTHERAN UNIVERSITY

Texas Lutheran enters their second year in the SCAC, fresh off a third place finish at last year's SCAC Championship. The Bulldogs top performer from a season ago, sophomore Sarah Fritzsche, returns in 2014 looking to be in the mix for All-Conference honors after finishing 17th a season ago. Frtzsche has been terrific all season long as she has been the top dog among her teammates all year including a win at the TLU Invitational.
Junior Jasmine Medrano and senior Stephanie Ernst return to the Bulldogs after performances in last season's championship. Medrano has put together an outstanding season in 2014, elevating herself to the No. 2 runner on the team. Juniors Amanda Lopez and Samantha Lopez as well as sophomore Kelsey Gomez will look to make an impact this upcoming weekend.
TRINITY UNIVERSITY

The two time defending champions will look to make it a three peat this Saturday as they are the hosts of the 2014 SCAC Championships. The team has put together some outstanding runs all season long, including a pair of team wins. Only one runner from last year's top five returns and that's senior Michelle Oberndorf, who finished fourth with a time of 22:47.1. She has been one of the leaders among the Tiger group all season long.
However, Trinity does welcome back seniors Nicola Hill and Autumn Kervella in 2014. Both ladies earned All-Conference honors a season ago, finishing in seventh and ninth at last season's race. A deep women's team, the Tigers also welcome back junior Mariana Sigala, sophomore Natalie Belew, and junior Ingrid Harb, all which competed in the SCAC Championship a year ago. The freshmen dup of Emma MacEachern and Haley McFadden will also look to make an impact this upcoming weekend.
