LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Weather continues to give SCAC softball teams fits as only five of the seven SCAC teams were able to get games in with all conference games this past weekend having to be altered.
Austin College
The 'Roos, again, saw games postponed due to weather; however, plan to makeup their four game series against the University of Dallas on Monday and Tuesday, playing all four games in the process. The 'Roos have not played a game since March 11th against TLU. Austin College will then remain on the road this upcoming weekend as they take on Centenary.
Centenary College
It was a tough weekend for the Ladies of Centenary as they were swept by Southwestern in conference play. The Pirates outscored the Maroon and White 41-6 in the pair of doubleheaders. The weekend opened with Centenary falling 12-2 and 10-0 on Saturday with 13-1 and 6-3 decisions on Sunday. Elizabeth LaFisca led the Ladies at the dish going 4-for-7 in three affairs, including a triple. Michelle Tasin garnered a team-best two RBI in the four contests with Morgan Daigle, Haley Miller and Raney Bryant each with a RBI. Centenary’s hurlers logged 22 innings in the circle with Miller touting a team-leading 9.1 frames. Tasin logged the lowest ERA on the weekend with a 5.40 in two appearances. The Ladies fall to 5-11 overall and 2-10 in SCAC play. Centenary will return home, after games that were scheduled to be at home against the Pirates, were moved to Georgetown due to weather. They will battle Austin College in a four game series.
University of Dallas
The Crusaders were scheduled for a four game series against Austin College; however, the games were postponed due to Monday and Tuesday due to rain in the area. Dallas sits at 11-7 on the season and 4-2 in SCAC play. Following the series against the 'Roos, the Crusaders will head to Georgetown to take on the Southwestern Pirates in a four game series.
Schreiner University
The Mountaineers went 0-4 on the weekend with their second half of games against Texas Lutheran scheduled for Monday afternoon. Schreiner hung tough with NAIA Our Lady of the Lake, but dropped both ends of a doubleheader, 1-0 and 6-4 (8). Lorena Espinoza pitched very well in the opener, holding the Saints to just five hits and one run over the seven innings. In the second game, Sarah Worrell, Daneece Stewart, Reanna Garces and Samantha Cordon each had a pair of hits in the game as Schreiner pounded out 10 all-together. Garces drove in a pair of runs. On Sunday, Texas Lutheran pitchers held Schreiner to three hits in a doubleheader sweep, 8-0 and 10-0. The Mountaineers three hits came from Brianna Rodriguez and Garces in the first game and Worrell in the second game. Schreiner is now 3-13 on the season and 3-7 in SCAC play. They will conclude the TLU series on Monday and then return to action on Tuesday with a doubleheader against George Fox followed by a doubleheader against George Fox on Wednesday.
Southwestern University
The Pirates were fantastic again, going 4-0 over Centenary as the series was moved from Shreveport to Georgetown due to weather. Stacy Rosengren continued her dominance at the plate, going 6-for-11 with two doubles and a homerun. She had a monstrous .909 slugging percentage and drove in four RBIs. Jordan Kunz was also outstanding at the plate with a team high .556 batting average, going 5-for-9 from the plate with five RBIs and three runs scored. Cozette Palmer went 3-0 on the weekend while Alyssa Novander went 1-0. Palmer threw two complete games, allowing 10 hits in 13.2 innings of work with just three runs scored while striking out five and walking eight. Novander threw eight innings, allowing three runs, two earned, on ten hits while walking three and striking out seven. The Pirates move to 12-10 on the season and 8-0 in the SCAC. They look to remaing perfect as they will be at home to welcome in the University of Dallas for a four game series.
Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs went 4-0 this past weekend including a pair of conference wins. Texas Lutheran began the weekend with two non-conference wins over Concordia (TX), 7-0 and 8-0. In game one, junior right-hander Taylor Grissom registered her sixth win in her sixth start of the season. Grissom surrendered just one hit in four innings of work. She struck out two and did not walk a batter. In game two, Veny Pizana moved to 4-2 with 3.1 innings pitched. She allowed just two hits. Samantha Yenne tossed the final 1.2 innings in game two and struck out two. Nicole Snow went 3-for-4 with two runs scored in the early game. Taylor Yancey added two doubles and an RBI. In game two, Jennifer Gallagher drove in four and went 2-for-3. Grace Estes collected a pair of hits and scored twice. Against Schreiner, Grissom and Pizana each earned wins. Ashley Jacobsen belted a two-run home run in the first game. Jacobsen went 1-for-3 with two runs scored and three RBI in the early game. In the late game, she added three hits, two runs scored and an RBI. Snow brought home a pair of runs in the 8-0 win. Hope Estes contributed two hits, a run scored and four RBI in the 10-0 victory. The Bulldogs improved to 14-4 overall and 6-0 in SCAC play. They will finish their series with Schreiner on Monday and will hit the road for a four game series against Trinity.
Trinity University
The Tigers finally got back on the field, taking on George Fox in a doubleheader at home this past weekend, falling 6-1 and 7-5. Katie Glomb (2-2) took the loss for the Tigers, and was relieved in the second inning by Kaci Wellik. Wellik gave up two hits and a walk over 6.0 shutout innings. The only run of the game for the Tigers came when Wellik drove home Hilary Hoffman in the bottom of the third. Lauren Mercado batted 1-for-3 with a walk on the day, and now leads the Tigers in a total of five RBI this season. Emily Fleischman accounted for two of Trinity’s runs in the game. Kaci Wellik (0-4) was the starting pitcher and gave up six earned runs. Katie Castillon took over for a third of an inning and finished the game. Trinity moves to 2-8 on the season and 1-1 in SCAC play. The Tigers will attempt to get SCAC games in, taking on Texas Lutheran at home on Friday and Saturday.
