Texas Lutheran's Brown, Grissom Named CoSIDA Academic All-American

AUSTIN, Texas – For the first time in program history, Texas Lutheran Softball had two players named Academic All-American, as Taylor Grissom and Jacquelyn Brown were both named on Wednesday to the Capital One Academic All-American Division III Softball Team. Full Release

Both players made it as members of the Third Team.

Wednesday marked just the second time a TLU program has had two student-athletes garner Academic All-American honors the same season. The other time came during the 2007-08 campaign, when Amber Lowe and Dana Robbins, both of cross-country and track and field, earned the honors.

Grissom was the SCAC Pitcher of the Year for a second consecutive season, finishing the year with a 20-2 record and a miniscule 0.77 ERA. She tossed 109, giving up just 12 earned runs and striking out 45.

She boasts a 3.86 grade-point average and is an education major.

Brown joined Grissom as a member of the All-SCAC First Team, enjoying a dominant junior campaign. She landed on the Academic All-American Third Team as an outfielder, hitting .436 on the year. She finished with 41 hits and 19 stolen bases.

She is an accounting major with a 3.87 grade-point average.

Both Grissom and Brown were key member of this year's squad that went undefeated a (16-0) in SCAC play, before winning its second straight SCAC Championship and moving on to a second straight NCAA Softball Regional.

The two players become the 24th and 25th overall Academic All-Americans in TLU history.

To be eligible for Academic All-America consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director.
