Softball Recap (Week 2) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – This past weekend, four of the seven SCAC softball teams were in action this past weekend with Austin College and Centenary College opening up their 2015 seasons with wins. 

Austin College
The 'Roos got their season off to an electric start, going 4-0 with a pair of sweeps over Southwestern Assemblies of God and Rust College. The 'Roos started the season with a 3-1 and 7-1 victory over the Lions. In game one, Briana Hernandez finished the game 2-for-3 with a homer and two RBI, and Lauren Mara finished 2-for 3 with two runs scored in the win. Victoria Herrera earned his first win of the season as she tossed 6.0 innings with nine strikeouts against zero walks, allowing one run on seven hits. In the second game, B. Hernandez went 3-for-4 with four RBI, and Vara and Sophia Hernandez each went 3-for-4. S. Hernandez got the win for Austin College, tossing the complete game while surrendering one run on just three hits and striking out six batters. The 'Roos followed that up with a pair of wins over Rust, 7-0 and 13-3 (5). S. Hernandez was spectacular again, going 2-for-4 with a double and a pair of RBIs while also picking up the win in the circle to improve to 2-0. In the second game, B. Hernandez blasted a three run shot, going 1-for-2 with three RBIs and two runs scored in the. Mara added a 2-for-3 day with two runs scored as Herrera picked up her second win of the season. Austin College returns to action on Sunday as they will welcome in Hendrix College in for a doubleheader.

Centenary College 
The Ladies started the season with a pair of wins over Rust College, 15-0 (5) and 15-1 (5). 

University of Dallas
The Crusaders went 2-2 this past weekend, dropping a pair of weekday games to Texas-Dallas before bouncing back with a sweep of Sul Ross State. Against the Comets, Dallas fell 8-4 in game one despite a three hit display from Madison Goforth and two more hits from Erin Begle. The Crusaders then fell 9-1 in game two. It was another multi-hit game for Begle who also drove in a run. Avery Finch was 2-for-2 in the matchup. The Crusaders returned on Sunday beginning with an 5-2 win over the Lobos. Taylor Garcia had a huge day, going 1-for-3 with a double and three RBIs while Lyda Tesauro and Ciara Stewart each drove in a run. Katie Lee pitched a complete game, allowing only two earned runs and striking out three. In the second game, Dallas held off a furious Sul Ross rally to pick up the victory. Tesauro finished 2-for-3 with four RBIs and two runs scored while Goforth was 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored. Finch, Begle, Garcia, and Allison Kotlar all had two hit ballgames. Elizabeth Symanski picked up the first win of her college career while Lee picked up the save. The Crusaders move to 3-3 on the season and will remain home this upcoming weekend as they welcome in Millsaps College on Saturday. 

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers did not play this past weekend. They will open up their season on Wednesday, March 4th, against Calumet in Kerrville. 

Southwestern University
The Pirates went 1-3 this past weekend, falling in a pair to Hardin-Simmons before bouncing back and splitting with Mary Hardin-Baylor. In a 9-5 game one loss, Ramos led at the plate in game one, going 2-2 with one RBI. Cozette Palmer garnered the loss on the mound to fall to 0-2 on the year. In a 12-3 (5) game two loss to the Cowgirls, six Pirates posted one hit each while Berkeley Bacon, Stacy Rosengren and Anissa Bonilla drove in runs. Alyssa Novander garnered the loss to fall to 0-2 on the year, allowing five runs on four hits with two walks. In an 8-2 loss to Mary Hardin-Baylor in game one, Palmer garnered the loss, allowing eight runs, five earned, on eight hits with one walk in 3.2 innings. Curtis went 2-2 with one RBI and one run scored to lead SU at the plate. The Pirates then got their first win of the season over the Cru is game two, 3-1, Palmer earned the win, her first of the season, allowing just two hits and one run in 2 innings. Bacon was 1-2 on the afternoon with 2 RBIs and Ally Holland went 2-3. The Pirates are back on the road next Tuesday as they take on Houston-Victoria.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs did not play this weekend, but return to action on Tuesday, February 17th as they take on the Concordia University (TX) Tornadoes in their home opener. 

Trinity University
The Tigers did not play this weekend and return to action on Friday, March 6th as they take on Cal College of St. Joseph.
