LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – This past weekend, four of the seven SCAC softball teams were in action this past weekend.
Austin
College
The 'Roos splt their games this past weekend against the Hendix
Warriors. In a 4-3 loss in game one, Sophia
Hernandez took the loss, surrendering four runs –
two earned – on seven hits in 5.1 innings of work. Austin
College was limited to six hits as a team, with England finishing
1-for-2 with an RBI while Hailey
Clendennen and Emily Low each had
a hit and scored a run. The 'Roos responded with an impressive 1-0
victory in game two. Victoria Herrera scattered five
hits and struck out six batters while walking one to improve to 3-0
on the year, and Clendennen went 2-for-3 to lead the 'Roos at the
dish. Mara, Low, Clevenger, and Mary
Whitworth each had one hit for Austin College. Ariel
McDonald took the loss for Hendrix, surrendering one run on six
hits in 6.0 innings of work. The 'Roos move to 5-1 on the young
season and return to action on Saturday as they travel to Conway,
Ark. to battle Westminster.
Centenary
College
The Ladies went 1-1 this past weekend, splitting with
Southwestern Assemblies of God, falling 5-4 before responding with
a 9-0 (5) win. Codi Coghlan and Carissa Herndon each posted
multiple-hit efforts on the day. Coghlan went 4-for-6 with three
runs and a RBI while Herndon was 4-for-7 with three runs and a RBI.
Anna Dunn posted a two-run homerun on the board in the second
contest to get scoring output kick started for the Maroon and
White. Emily Sexton added a RBI double in the second inning along
with a two-RBI single from Lizzie Moran to extend the lead to
5-0. Haley Miller (1-0) garnered the first win of her
collegiate career with a three-hit shutout in 5.0 innings in the
9-0 win in game two. Centenary moves to 3-1 on the young season.
The Ladies return to action on March 7th for conference play
against Schreiner.
University of
Dallas
The Crusaders went 0-2 this past weekend with a pair of
losses, 3-0 and 15-4 (6), to Millsaps
College. Sophomore Katie
Lee (2-2) limited the Purple and White to one hit
through the first 14 batters of game one, but would find trouble in
a game-deciding fifth frame. Avery Finch and
Erin Begle recorded the knocks, as Finch posted a
two-of-three display in the setback. Finch
boasted a consecutive two-hit outing, giving her four base knocks
in six at bats overall in the twin bill. Begle added an RBI in the
fifth to bring the score to 9-4 at the time. Elizabeth
Symanski was saddled with the loss in the second
game. Dallas, now 3-5, will get a couple weeks off
before opening Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) play
at Trinity University on March 7-8.
Schreiner
University
The Mountaineers did not play this past weekend. They
will open up their season on Wednesday, March 4th, against Calumet
College of St. Joseph in Kerrville.
Southwestern
University
The Pirates did not play this weekend, but return to
action February 24th as they take on Houston-Victoria.
Texas Lutheran
University
The Bulldogs went 2-0 this past weekend with a pair of blowout
victories over Concordia (TX), 16-0 (5) and 8-0 (5).
Pitchers pitchers Veny
Pizana andTaylor
Grissom each tossed complete-game, one-hit
shutouts for TLU. Nicole Snow went
2-for-3 in game one with two runs scored and four RBI. Snow hit a
two-run single in the first inning and two-run double in the second
inning. Heather Hummel also went 2-for-3
with four RBI. Hummel tripled to right-center to score two in the
second and doubled down the third-base line in the third to drive
in another two. In game two, Grace
Estes drove in a pair of runs and scored one,
and Jacquelyn Brown scored three
runs, went 2-for-3 and drove in a pair. She also stole three bases.
The Bulldogs will take some time off and return to action on March
2nd at they battle Calumet College of St.
Joseph.
Trinity
University
The Tigers did not play this weekend and return to action
on Friday, March 6th as they take on Calumet College of St.
Joseph.
