Softball Recap (Week 10) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Texas Lutheran earned the SCAC regular season title and No. 1 seed in the upcoming SCAC Championship while Dallas and Trinity punched their ticket with sweeps over their opponents this past weekend.

Austin College
The 'Roos did not play this past weekend. They currently sit at 10-12 overall and 5-11 in SCAC play. They will conclude their season on the road as they take on Schreiner University in a four game series.

Centenary College 
The Ladies were swept this past weekend by Trinity University as they drop to 7-22 overall and 4-16 in SCAC play. On day one, they fell 8-0 and 9-4. In the second game, Emily Sexton led the wya, oging 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored as the Ladies led 4-3 midway through the game before Trinity turned it on for the W. The following day it was all Tigers agian, winning 9-1 and 9-0. Anna Dun nhad the lone RBI in the two contests while Haley Miller had a run scored. Centenary has an uphill battle to climb to earn a postseason birth in the SCAC Championship. They will begin the week with a two game series against LeTourneau followed by a four game series against Texas Lutheran at home.

University of Dallas
The Crusaders clinched a spot in the SCAC Championship and will more than likely be the No. 3 seed as they swept the Schreiner University Mountaineers this past weekend. In the first game, Katie Lee pitched a complete game shutout and Erin Begle went 2-for-3 with four RBI and a run scored as the Crusaders opened with an 8-0 (5) win. In the next game, Begle struck again, going 2-for-2 with two doubles and two RBIs while Taylor Garcia and Lyda Tesauro each drove in two runs in a 10-7 win. Tesauro had a double and triple while Garcia and Ashley Pickert each had three hit games. The following day, Dallas took advantage of Schreiner errors for a 4-3 win despite only five hits. Finally, Dallas made it a sweep with a 6-4 win in the finale despite only five hits in the game. Lee earned the win in all four games and moves to 19-11 overall. She is now the career leader in wins at the University of Dallas. The Crusaders also set a new mark for wins at 20. Dallas concludes the SCAC season and will take on Mid American Nazarene University and Ottawa University in a pair of doubleheaders this week. 

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers will be in the SCAC Championship as they are hosting the tournament, but will try and fight for the fifth seed as they were swept this past weekend by Dallas. After opening with an 8-0 (5) loss, the Mountaineers got their bats going, falling just short 10-7. Kelly Schwind was 1-for-3 with a double and three RBI in the contest while Samantha Cordon went 3-for-4 with two doubles and a run scored. Nichole Schoenherr, Lorena Espinoza, and Daneece Stewart each had a pair of hits in the contest. The followed day, the Mountaineers got great pitching performances, but it was not enough as they dropped the final two games, 4-3 and 6-4. Schreiner will conclude their SCAC season this upcoming weekend as they take on the Austin College 'Roos.

Southwestern University
The Pirates went 0-3 over the weekend, dropping three contests to Texas Lutheran with the final game rained out. The Pirates struggled at the plate all weekend, only earning eight total hits. They fall to 16-17 overall and 12-7 in SCAC play. After falling 6-0 in game one, the Pirates got a little bit of offense going, scoring two runs thanks to errors by the Texas Lutheran defense, but it would not be enough, falling 9-2. The final game would be called due to weather in the Seguin area and will not be made up. Southwestern will conclude their regular season this weekend against Trinity. They can finish as high as No. 2 in the SCAC or as low as No. 4 depending on how the week plays out.

#23 Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs moved into the national rankings for the second time in school history and moved their school record winning streak to 26 games and conference game winning streak to 30 games with three wins over Southwestern. The Bulldogs are now 29-4, 19-0 in SCAC play, and have clinched the SCAC regular season title and No. 1 seed. They began the weekend with a 6-0 win over the Pirates as Taylor Grissom earned her 13th win of the season. Taylor Yancey finished 1-for-2 with three RBI including a triple. Grace Estes and Ashley Jacobsen each added a pair of hits. The Bulldogs then took a 9-2 win thanks to a four RBI day from Jennifer Gallagher. Veny Pizana earned her ninth with of the season. The next day, Grissom earned win No. 14 with a 5-0 victory as Gallagher and Heather Hummel each drove in a pair of runs. The final game never got going as mother nature interrupted. The Bulldogs will finished the regular seaosn on the road in Shreveport as they battle Centenary in a four game series. 

Trinity University
The Tigers went 5-1 over the weekend to clinch a spot in the SCAC Championship as either the No. 2 or No. 4 seed with a split with UMHB and a sweep of Centenary. Trinity is now 14-16 on the season and 8-6 in SCAC play. They began the weekend with an 8-0 (6) win ad Caitlynn Dykes and Brittany Haby each drove in a pair of runs while Kaci Wellik picked up her seventh win of the season. Trinity followed that up with a 9-4 win behind a four RBI day from Dykes including a double and homerun. Lauren Mercado was terrific with a homer of her own and three runs batted in. Katie Castillon also had two RBI. Katie Glomb picked up the W. The next day, Trinity took a 9-1 (5) win as Mercado and Dykes drove in two more while Castillon earned a win. Finally, the Tigers earned the sweep with a 9-0 (5) victory as Mackenzie Hill drove in four runs while Dykes added two more. Glomb picked up her fourth win of the season. Trinity will conclude their season on the road as they take on Southwestern in a four game series.
