LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Women’s Basketball wrapped up action before the Christmas break last as five more teams opened up SCAC play for the year highlighted by Austin and Colorado College’s remaining perfect in league contests.

Austin College (8-0, 2-0) is off to its third-straight 2-0 start in league play after defeating Centenary (0-9, 0-2), 75-34, on Friday and St. Thomas, 82-75, on Saturday at home in Sherman, Texas. Against the Ladies, the ‘Roos shot a perfect 15-for-15 from the charity stripe as Austin College won its fourth consecutive game and sixth of the season by 10 or more points. On Saturday, AC jumped out to a 30-10 lead in the first quarter and dished out a season-high 25 assists on 32 made field goals to secure the seven-point victory. Freshman Sarah Gwin led the way on the weekend for the ‘Roos, averaging 13.5 points, 4.5 assists and two rebounds per night, including a career-best 19 points in the win over the Celts.

Colorado College (6-3, 2-0) extended its winning streak to six, the program’s longest since the 1989-90 season when CC won nine straight, after defeating Texas Lutheran, 79-56, at home last Thursday. Colorado College shot a season-high 50 percent from the field (30-60), dished out a year-best 21 assists and is now 2-0 in league play for the first time since the 2014-15 season. Junior forward McKenzee Gertz recorded her second double-double of the season in just 29 minutes of action, pouring in 23 points on 10-for-16 shooting and grabbing 10 rebounds. Gertz, who has scored 20 or more points four times this season, became just the 22nd player in program history to record 900 or more points.

St. Thomas (6-3, 1-1) won its inaugural SCAC contest on the road last Friday, defeating Dallas, 67-51, to split the opening weekend of league play for the Celts. Sophomore forward Olivia Anga came off the bench to provide a spark for St. Thomas, scoring 11 points on an efficient 5-for-8 shooting and grabbing a game-high nine rebounds.

Texas Lutheran (3-6, 1-1) bounced back from its SCAC opening loss to CC to defeat Johnson & Wales (0-7, 0-2) in overtime, 69-65, in a game that saw the Bulldogs trailing by two at the half and eight going into the fourth quarter. Sophomore forward Morgan Rodriguez finished with a game-high 10 rebounds, nine points and two assists, including the assist on the game-tying layup to send the game into overtime. TLU has now won three of its last four contests going into the break.

Dallas (3-5, 1-1) outscored Centenary 20-12 in the final quarter to secure a split on opening weekend and hand head coach Bri Calver her first conference win of her career after knocking off the Ladies, 59-64, on Saturday afternoon in Irving. Freshman Beyonce Perry scored 18 points, including the go-ahead bucket with 3:37 left in the fourth quarter, to lead the Crusaders to victory.

Schreiner (2-5) won its second game in a row after defeating Sul Ross St., 61-49, at home last Tuesday. The Mountaineers shot a season-high 36.9 percent from the field (24-65) and dished out a year-best 17 assists, while holding the Lobos to just 16-for-55 shooting (29.1%) in the win. Sophomore forward Yasmine Arogunjo scored a career-high 17 points off the bench to lead the Mountaineers.

Trinity (5-2) has now won four of its last five contests after earning a pair of non-conference victories over the weekend in Washington, defeating Puget Sound on Saturday, 70-61, and then topping Pacific Lutheran, 75-40, to close out the Northwest Holiday Tournament on Sunday. Against the Loggers, Trinity scored 35 points off of turnovers after a season-high 24 steals and then grabbed a season-best 50 rebounds and held the Lutes to just eight combined points in the second and third quarters to finish off a 2-0 trip before the break. Senior Anna Muller came off the bench in both Tiger wins, earning All-Tournament honors after averaging 9.5 points, 10 rebounds and 4.5 blocks per game.

SCAC teams will be idle this week with the holiday break but return to the floor to close out the 2019 portion of the schedule with a full slate of league games with eight contests scheduled on Sunday and Monday, December 29-30.
