LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball race is starting to take shape following nine league games last week, highlighted by Trinity remaining perfect in SCAC action and Centenary securing its first win of the season.

Trinity (11-2, 6-0) extended it winning streak to eight games after defeating Dallas (3-9, 1-5) on the road, 91-50, on Friday night then handing Austin College its first loss of the season, 86-65, on Saturday evening in Sherman. The Tigers, who once again used a fast start to help secure both wins, have outscored their opponents 176-104 in the opening quarter during this current eight game win streak including taking a lead into the second quarter of both games last weekend. Abby Holland led the way offensively averaging a double-double with 14 points and 10.5 rebounds per contest. The senior also dished out 5.5 assists per game and posted her third double-double of the season in the win over Austin College with 14 points while tying a career-high with 12 rebounds.

Austin College (12-1, 5-1), despite falling to Trinity, posted a 1-1 record last week in conference play, picking up a victory at home against Schreiner, 71-48, on Friday night. The ‘Roos saw four women finish the night in double figures, led by Regan Chiaverini and Natalie McCoy each pouring in 17 points. Ally Longaker finished the game with a double-double on 10 points and 10 rebounds.

St. Thomas (11-4, 6-2) posted a perfect 2-0 record in league play last weekend after cruising to wins over Texas Lutheran, 87-68, and Southwestern (3-11, 1-6), 104-66, at home on Friday evening and Sunday afternoon. The win over the Pirates marked the third time this season the Celts have clipped the century mark, posting a perfect 3-0 mark when scoring 100 or more points. Senior Sheridan Hopkins became St. Thomas’ all-time leader in points after averaging 26 points per game and adding 10 rebounds a night to lead the Celts.

Colorado College (9-5, 5-2) defeated Johnson & Wales (2-10, 2-5), 78-30, last Friday night on the road, in the only game for both teams last week. Freshman forward Tedy Reed came off the bench to lead CC with a season-high 18 points, connecting on 7-for-11 from the field. She also grabbed six rebounds and had a pair of steals. The Tigers have now won nine of their last 11 contests and are just one-win shy of their third consecutive 10 plus win season after having gone the previous five years without hitting that mark.

Texas Lutheran (6-8, 4-3) split a pair of SCAC road contests last week, falling to St. Thomas on Friday, before bouncing back to defeat Centenary, 69-58, on Sunday. Against the Ladies, the Bulldogs saw five women in double-figures, led by Abby Hroch posting a double-double with 15 points and 15 rebounds. In Sunday’s victory the Bulldogs committed a season-low six turnovers as a team.

Schreiner (5-8, 3-3) got back to .500 in league play after closing out the weekend with a 75-57 road victory over Dallas last Saturday. The Mountaineers hit a season-high eight three pointers in the win. Sydney Williams posted a pair of double-doubles over the weekend, including a monster 26-point, 17-rebound performance in the win over the Crusaders.

Centenary (1-14, 1-7) secured its first win of the season, knocking off Southwestern, 61-57, last Friday night at home. Trailing by two at the half, the Ladies outscored the Pirates 21-14 in the third quarter and hung on in the fourth for the win. Bre Frierson scored 16 of her 26 points in the second half to lead Centenary to the victory.

There are nine league games on the schedule this week, highlighted by Colorado College traveling to Trinity on Saturday.
