LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- All nine Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball squads took to the court in week eight of the regular season.
Southwestern (6-9, 5-1) handed Austin College its first conference loss of the season, defeating the Roos' 69-67 in double-overtime. Junior guard Zhazze Brown led the Pirates with 17 points and five rebounds including the game-tying bucket to send her team to double-overtime. Sophomore forward Noel Pratts also contributed 13 points and nine rebounds in the contest while junior center Cecily Woolfolk added 11 points and eight rebounds in the effort. The Pirates improved to 2-0 on the week with a 55-38 win over Dallas (1-13, 1-5). In the win over Dallas, freshman guard Courtney Maass netted 11 points while Pratts, senior forward Tori Carraway and junior forward Naomi Brown put away 10 points a-piece.
Trinity (12-3, 5-1) also swept opponents this week with victories over Colorado College (8-8, 5-3) and Johnson & Wales (0-13, 0-8). The Tigers were paced by junior forward Abby Holland who averaged 17.0 points per game. Senior guard Rachel Chavez was also incredibly effecient for Trinity during the two-game stretch shooting 75.0 percent from the field (9-for-12) and 80.0 percent from three-point range (4-for-5) collecting 11.5 points per game.
Despite suffering its first loss in conference play, Austin College (12-3, 5-1) bounced back with a 77-61 victory over Texas Lutheran. In the victory, sophomore guard Kacie West came off the bench scoring 19 points and senior forward Bryce Frank posted her 11th double-double performance of the season with 16 points and 10 rebounds. On the week Frank averaged a double-double with 17.5 points and 12.5 rebounds per game.
Texas Lutheran (9-7, 5-2) went 1-1 this week picking up a 75-69 win against Schreiner to start the week. The Bulldogs were led by junior guard Dominque Campos who netted 23 points and four rebounds. Several other players posted double-digit figures for TLU in the win including freshman forward Morgan Rodriguez (14), senior guard Bryanna Delgado (12) and sophomore guard Tara Molina (11). Molina went on to lead the league in assists during the week, averaging 7.0 per game in the Bulldogs’ two contests.
SCAC women's basketball continues on Tuesday when Southwestern plays host Texas Lutheran with seven more games over the course of the week.
