Casey Torbet joined the Colorado College women's basketball program's 1,000 point club when she connected on a three-pointer with 2:25 remaining in the game, but CC's valiant comeback effort came up short in a 90-79 loss to Trinity University on Friday night at Reid Arena.

Torbet, who became the 13th player in program history to reach the milestone, scored all of her 13 points during the second half when Colorado College nearly erased a 21-point deficit during the final six minutes.

The last of Torbet's three points cut Trinity's lead to 85-72, and then sophomore winger McKenzee Gertz and sophomore guard Jade Odom combined for five points before the
Texas Tigers sealed the game with a layup and three free throws.

Odom matched her season high of 20 points to lead CC, which slipped to 8-8 overall and 5-3 in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Gertz finished with 16 points, a team-leading nine rebounds and six steals.

Colorado College trailed 15-13 after Odom sank a pair of free throws with 3:46 remaining in the first quarter, but TU closed the period on a 13-2 run to stretch its advantage to 13 points after 10 minutes.

After Odom dialed long distance during the opening minute of the second quarter, Trinity scored 16 of the next 19 points to build a 44-21 cushion, its largest of the game, with 2:29 remaining in the first half.

Odom scored four points and senior guard Payton Katich drained a three-pointer during a 7-0 run that trimmed CC's deficit to 16 at halftime.

Torbet's first triple pulled Colorado College to within 54-40 a little past the halfway point of the third quarter, but an 8-0 surge gave Trinity a 22-point lead and the margin hovered around 20 until midway through the fourth quarter.

Hailey Coleman's jumper gave TU an 82-61 lead with 5:38 remaining in the game, but CC responded with an 8-0 run to get to with 13 points with 3:03 to go.

A three-point play by Trinity's Rachel Chavez slowed the momentum, however back-to-back three-pointers from Torbet and Gertz made the score 85-75, and then Odom scored on a layup to get Colorado College to within eight points for the first time.

Abby Holland led TU with a game-high 21 points.

Chavez finished with 14 pints for Trinity, which improved to 11-3 overall and 4-1 in the SCAC.

CC begins a run of three consecutive road games next weekend when it visits Schreiner University on Friday and Trinity on Saturday.
