LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's basketball had a short schedule this week with only four of the nine teams hitting the floor for five contests.
Of those five contests, Colorado College (4-5, 1-0) earned the only victory, a 91-58 win Tuesday night against Johnson & Wales (0-6, 0-1)in the conference opener for both squads. The Tigers, who had five players reach double-digit scoring, were paced by freshman Izzy Strigel who came off the bench to contribute 17 points. Senior guard Casey Torbet with 14 points, sophomore guard McKenzee Gertz with 13, junior forward Nia Duplain with 12 and freshman Clair Jones with 11 rounded out the Tigers balanced attack. Sophomore forward Jade Odom added 13 rebounds. Colorado College fell to 1-2 on the week with losses to Whitman and Whitworth over the weekend.
Despite falling short against the Tigers, Johnson & Wales freshman guard Katey Guzman managed to earn 25 points and nine rebounds in the programs first-ever SCAC contest.
Women's basketball competition picks back up on Thursday when Austin College (5-1) takes on Hardin-Simmons while conference action continues over the weekend when Southwestern (1-8, 0-0) and Texas Lutheran (4-5, 0-0) host Johnson & Wales and Colorado College.
