Women's Basketball Recap (Week 5) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – This week, three of the eight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women’s basketball teams were in action.

Centenary College
The Ladies went 0-2 on the weekend, beginning with a 83-59 loss to LSU-Alexandria before falling to Division I McNeese State, 86-35. Sophomore Haley Deshautelle paced the Ladies with 17 points in the loss to LSU-A. The point total is a season-high for the Santa Monica, Calif., native and one off her career-high set last season against LaGrange on Nov. 23. It marks her first contest this season in double figures. Rebecca Thompson added 15 points for the Ladies. Against the Cowgirls, Centenary was led by Briana Edwards and Haley Deshautelle. The duo each scored a team-best seven points in the outing while Edwards grabbed a team-leading 10 rebounds in the contest. The 10 boards marks the third outing this season with double-digit rebounds for the Shreveport, La., native. Centenary returns to action on Tuesday, Dec. 30 as they host Hendrix College.

Southwestern University
The Pirates picked up a win over the weekend, defeating Hardin-Simmons 75-68 on the road for their second victory of the year. Jordan Owens had 17 points to lead Southwestern and Annie Bourne had 13 points and 12 rebounds. Valerie Logan had 14 points and seven assists. Southwestern outrebounded the Cowgirls 41-31 and shot 48.3 percent in the game, leading by as many as 16 points in the game. The Pirates remain on the road to face Rust College on Wednesday.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs fell to Division I foe Incarnate Word in San Antonio this past Wednesday, 62-41. Taylor Dydalewicz and Katie Moore each led the way offensively with nine points while Karisa Cantu added seven points. Dydalewicz added five rebounds while Cantu had five assists in the outing. The Bulldogs used the free throw stripe to stay in it in the first half, making 11-of-15 and overcoming 4-of-22 shooting from the field. That production from the charity stripe dried up in the second half, as the Bulldogs went without a free throw for the final 20 minutes. TLU is back in action on Thursday, Dec. 18 when they play host to Manchester University.
