LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The SCAC women's basketball season continued this past weekend as seven of the eight SCAC teams were in action this past week.
Austin College
The 'Roos went 1-0 over the weekend, picking up a victory over
Hendrix College on Saturday afternoon, 75-59 to move to 3-3 on the
season. Kali Vittallo came off the bench to hit all
three of her attempts from the field, including two from deep, and
knocked down 7-of-8 free throws to score a career high 15 in the
win, while Erin Riley finished with 15 points and seven rebounds.
Brianna Harvey had a double-double in the victory, scoring 13
points and grabbing 10 boards, and ChristinaKime finished
with 10 points and seven assists as Austin College shot
57% from the field after halftime. Austin College will take some
time off, but return to action on Thursday, December 18th to take
on Millsaps College on the road.
Centenary
College
The Ladies dropped a pair of matchups this weekend, falling
79-48 to LSU-Shreveport before dropping a 81-42 contest to
25th-ranked Rhodes. Against LSU-S, Rebecca Thompson led
the Maroon and White with a career-high 19 points and a season-high
14 rebounds for her first double-double of the
season. Briana Edwards tallied four blocks in the
outing to finish just outside the most blocks in a single-game
ranking in school history. The Shreveport, La., product scored six
points and grabbed six rebounds in the effort. Against the
Lynx, Edwards led the way with 11 points in the contest
marking her fifth outing in double figures this season. Centenary
is back in action on Tuesday as they battle LSU-Alexandria and
McNeese State on Wednesday.
Colorado College
The Tigers of Colorado College dropped a pair of contests to
Pacific Lutheran and Puget Sound this past weekend. Against the
Lutes, Colorado College was unable to keep Pacific Lutheran
at bay as the Lutes rallied from behind to beat the Tigers in
overtime, 76-70, on Friday evening. Katie Waters led the way with
21 points while Danielle Davis added 12 points and 12 boards in the
loss. Puget Sound proved too much for the Colorado
College women's basketball team, as the Tigers fell, 94-45. Davis
led the way with 10 points while Courtney Tyus added nine points
and six assists. Colorado College will take some time off and
return to action on December 16th at Reid Arena as it
hosts Johnson & Wales.
University
of Dallas
The Dallas Crusaders went 1-1 over the weekend with a 79-72 loss
to New Hope Christian College followed by a 61-46 victory over
Linfield. Freshman Michelle DeCoud notched her first
personal double-double with career-highs in points and rebounds
with 17 and 10, respectively. Those pair of double figure
categories also were team-leaders on the
evening. Matching her season-best 12 points for the
third time on the campaign was sophomore Seana Stoia.
Against the Wildcats, DeCoud picked up right where she left
off Friday night, matching her season-high on back-to-back games
with 17 points. The rookie forward was a rebound shy of her second
double-double in as many nights, too. Marleyna Bustamante produced
solid results contributing 13 points, while sophomore Sammy Tso
(Las Vegas, Nev.) completed the trio of double figure scorers with
11. Dallas enjoys most of the month off with its next contest
slated on December 30th at Sul Ross State.
Schreiner
University
Schreiner was idle this past weekend, they will return to action
on Tuesday, December 30th as they take on LeTourneau University in
Tyler, Texas.
Southwestern
University
The Pirates went 0-2 over the weekend, falling to Division II St.
Edward's 68-59 on Wednesday evening before falling 75-57 to
18th-ranked Whitworth on Saturday. Against the
Hilltoppers, Jordan Owens continues her scoring
dominance with a game high 20 points on 7-11 from the field.
Madison Eschle added in 10 points while Annie Bourne had a game
high 11 rebounds. Against Whitworth, the Pirates were led
by Bourne with 20 points and a game high 12
boards for her second double-double of the season. Owens added 13
points. Southwestern returns to action on December 13th as they
take on Hardin-Simmons on the road.
Texas Lutheran
University
In their only matchup of the weekend, the Texas Lutheran Bulldogs
fell just shor tto the 18th-ranked Whitworth Pirates on Friday
afternoon, 78-64. The final score didn't quite reflect the game as
the Bulldogs were within two scores, trailing 64-58 with
3:06 left. Taylor Dydalewicz was terrific again, scoring 27 points
on 10-of-17 shooting as 18 points all came in the first half.
Karisa Cantu added in 14 points on the afternoon to go with four
assists. The Bulldogs hit the road again on Wednesday as they will
take on Division I foe Incarnate Word.
Trinity
University
Trinity won their third and fourth straight games in the early
part of the season, defeating Chapman, 64-60, and the Redlands,
59-52, this past weekend. Against Chapman, Anecia
Richardson led Trinity with her third straight 20-point game,
connecting on 7-12 field goals and 7-8 foul shots for 21 total
points. She also led the team with seven rebounds, which ties
her season best total that she has reached three times in five
game. Lauren Splawn and Monica Holguin were the only
other Tiger players to reach double digits in scoring, tallying 11
points each. Against the Relands, Splawn took game-high
honors by pouring in 20 points for the Tigers while Richardson
added 15 points. Trinity will not play again until
December 19th as they will have their home opener against North
Park.
