LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Another big slate of SCAC games took place this past weekend. Schreiner opened up their brand new events center as all the southern teams in the SCAC went 1-1 against each other. Meanwhile, Austin College and Dallas produced big weekends, both going 2-0 in conference play.
Austin College
The 'Roos snapped their four game skid this past weekend with a
pair of wins over Colorado College and Centenary. Austin College
opened the weekend with a 78-64 victory over the Tigers. Despite
being outshot in the game, the 'Roos forced 19 turnovers in the
victory. Erin Riley and Christina Kime led the way with 12 points
each while Brianna Harvey added 11 points and seven rebounds. Kime
added seven rebounds and five assists. On Sunday, the 'Roos picked
up another victory, defeating the Ladies 74-44. It was another
excellent defensive performance for the 'Roos, forcing 23 turnovers
in the win. Chrissy Ray led the scoring attack with 20 points and
six boards off the bench while Kime added 17 points and nine
assists. The 'Roos improve to 7-8 overall and 2-3 in the SCAC. They
will return home this upcoming weekend as they welcome in Texas
Lutheran on Friday and Southwestern on Saturday.
Centenary College
The Ladies went 0-2 on the weekend with losses to Dallas
and Austin College. Centenary opened the weekend with a 77-60 loss
to the Crusaders, shooting their second highest percentage of the
season at 41.1%. Briana Edwards led the way with 15 point and 11
rebounds for her fourth double-double of the season. Haley
Deshautelle and Rebecca Thompson each added 12 points for the
Ladies in the loss. On Sunday, the Ladies could not find an answer
for Austin College, falling 74-44. Edwards, again, led the way with
17 points and 14 rebounds. Deshautelle added eight points and 12
boards in the loss while DeiAnna Hall had 10 points. Centenary
moves to 0-16 on the season and 0-6 in SCAC play. The Ladies will
go back on the road as they take on Trinity on Friday and Schreiner
on Saturday.
Colorado College
Senior guard Courtney Tyus had an outstanding weekend,
but her efforts were not enough to get Colorado College back in the
win column. Tyus poured in a game-high 21 points, but the Tigers
dropped a 78-64 to Austin on Friday night. Tyus made six of 11
field-goal attempts and seven of eight free throws to eclipse the
20-point mark for the second time this season. She also added nine
assists and a pair of blocked shots. Junior forward Danielle Davis
reached double figures for the 13th time in 16 games and finished
with 13 points, while junior guard Katie Waters finished with 10
points and nine rebounds. Tyus was a force at both ends of the
court against Dallas on Sunday, but the Crusaders made 41 of 50
free throws, including 10 of 14 in overtime, and escaped Reid Arena
with a 92-86 victory. Tyus recorded 25 points, 10 rebounds, seven
steals and five assists before fouling out with 3:42 to play. It
was her third double-double of the season and sixth of her career.
She also went over the 100 assist mark for the second year in row,
finishing the contest with 101. Tyus tied her career high with
seven steals, which improved her career total to 201. She joined
Melanie Auguste (2005-09), who holds the school record with 289, as
the only players in program history to record 200 or more.
Sophomore forward Korbyn Ukasick nearly had a double-double in the
first half with 10 rebounds and nine points. She finished with 20
points and 11 rebounds en route to her third career double-double.
Junior guard Katie Wirth matched her season high of 12 points in
the first half as CC built a 46-34 lead after 20 minutes. She
finished with 13. Colorado College returns to the road next week
for games at Schreiner and Trinity on Friday and Saturday,
respectively.
University of Dallas
The Crusaders picked up two conference victories of the
season this past weekend, defeating Centenary and Colorado College
on the road. Against the Ladies, Dallas ran out to an early lead
and never looked back, winning 77-60. Brooke Hagemann led the way
for the Crusaders with 13 points while Michelle DeCoud added 11
points and eight rebounds. Marleyna Bustamante added 10 points and
Sammi Tso had eight points, four assists, and two steals. On Sunday
at Colorado College, the Crusaders were able to pull out a 92-86
victory in overtime thanks to 27 points from Michelle DeCoud and 24
points from Brooke Hagemann. Dallas overcame a poor shooting night
by getting to the free throw line 50 times and converting on 41.
The Crusaders erased a 12-point halftime deficit to force OT and
pick up the win. Tso added 13 points while Seena Stoia led the way
with 11 boards. Dallas moves to 9-5 overall and 3-2 in SCAC play.
The Crusaders will return home this upcoming weekend as they take
Southwestern on Friday and Texas Lutheran on Saturday.
Schreiner University
The Mountaineers split a pair of games this past weekend
as they opened the brand new Schreiner Event Center. Texas Lutheran
came to town and played spoiler on opening night, defeating the
Mountaineers, 67-51. The Bulldogs raced to a 41-24 halftime lead
and the Mountaineers could not recover. Brooke Sanders
scored 12 points and four rebounds for Schreiner while Kelsie
Jackson 10 with two assists. Jordyn Villa had nine points and six
rebounds and Sabriyyah Fennell added seven points and seven boards.
However, the Mountaineers would bounce back with an impressive
67-61 win over first place Southwestern. Jackson and
Fennell scored 15 points each to lead the Mountaineers. Fennell
grabbed eight rebounds in a complete effort. Schreiner improves to
5-9 overall and 3-1 in SCAC play. The Mountaineers will begin the
week with a home matchup against Trinity on Tuesday and will then
welcome in Colorado College and Centenary on Friday and Saturday,
respectively.
Southwestern University
The Pirates split the weekend at 1-1, picking up a huge
win over Trinity before falling on the road to Schreiner. In a
50-49 win over Trinity, Audrey Garcia hit a three pointer with less
than a minute remaining to give the Pirates the win. McKamie
Place led all scorers with 12 points on 5-9 shooting
from the floor while Jordan
Owens and Annie Bourne added in
11 each. Owens also grabbed a game-high nine rebounds in the win as
the Pirates out-rebounded TU 40-38. Southwestern held
Trinity to 31% from the floor and 30.4% from three point range and
allowed just 10 free throws. Against Schreiner, the Pirates fell
just short, suffering their first conference loss of the season,
67-61. Place once again led the Pirates with 17 points
off the bench. Bourne added in 12 points and
11 rebounds while Owens added 11 points.
Southwestern goes to 6-10 on the season and 4-1 in SCAC play. They
will be back on the road this weekend as they take on Dallas and
Austin College on Friday and
Saturday.
Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs went 1-1 over the weekend with a win over Schreiner
followed by a tough loss to Trinity. Against the Mountaineers, in a
big game environment as it was the opening of the Mountaineers new
event center, the Bulldogs raced out to a 41-24 halftime lead and
cruised to a 67-51 road victory. Taylor Dydalewicz led the way with
15 points to go with four steals on the night. Bailey Champion
added eight points while Karisa Cantu had seven points. The
Bulldogs took a 36-33 lead into halftime against Trinity the
following day, but could not overcome second half struggles as they
would fall, 65-62. Dydalewicz led the way again with 17 points
while Savannah Hight added 11 points and five rebounds. The
Bulldogs move to 8-7 on the season and 3-2 in SCAC play. They will
go back on the road this upcoming weekend as they will take on
Austin College on Friday and Dallas on Saturday.
Trinity University
The Tigers went 1-1 this past weekend, falling to Southwestern,
but bouncing back and defeating Texas Lutheran the following day.
The Tigers would fall 50-49 to the Pirates, snapping their 11 game
winning streak. Caitlin Barrett and Anecia Richardson
each contributed 10 points for the Tigers. Barrett went 3-5 beyond
the arc, and racked up four assists and two steals. She now is just
seven assists from becoming the 13th Trinity player ever to reach
200 in a career. Richardson hit 4-8 shots from the field, grabbed a
team-best seven rebounds, and led the game with five blocked shots.
The following day, the Tigers erased a three point deficit in the
second half to defeat TLU 65-62. Barrett led Trinity
with 15 points to go with four rebounds and four assists, hitting
5-7 overall and 5-6 from three-point range. Lauren Splawn and
Richardson chipped in with 11 points each, while Monica Holguin
also reached double figures with 10 points. The Tigers move to 12-3
on the season and 3-1 in conference
play. Trinity resumes SCAC play on Tuesday
evening, facing off against Schreiner on the road. They then return
home to host Centenary and Colorado College.
