Women's Basketball Recap (Week 15) - Around the SCAC

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Texas Lutheran University and Trintiy University each staked claims to the SCAC regular season title while the rest of the field solidified their spot at the upcoming SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament on the final weekend of the regular season.

The SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament begins on Friday, February 27th in Irving, Texas on the campus of the University of Dallas. The first game tips off at 1 p.m. and game will be played throughout the day. Tournament Page l Women's Interactive Bracket 

Austin College
The 'Roos earned the No. 6 spot in the SCAC Tournament after falling to the University of Dallas nad then responded on their senior day with a victory over Rust. In a 90-81 loss to the Crusaders, Briana Harvey's 11 points and game-high 16 rebounds landed her a double-double. Kendall Heitmeier paced the offense with 20 points, while Christina Kime and Kali Vittallo added 15 and 13, respectively. The following day, the 'Roos used an outstanding defensive effort to earn a 62-47 win over the Bearcats. Kime finished the game hitting 3-of-6 from deep and scoring 19 points to go along with three rebounds and three steals, and her two assists pushed her to 400 for her career. Vittallo came off the bench to contribute 11 points, and Chrissy Ray added nine points, six rebounds, and five blocked shots. Austin College finished their regular season with a 10-14 overall record and a 5-9 record in the SCAC. The 'Roos being the SCAC Tourament on Friday as they will on the Trinity Tigers, the No. 3 seed, at 3 p.m. in Irving. 

Centenary College 
Centenary concluded their regular season last weekend. They went 0-24 for the season straight year and 0-14 in the SCAC. 

Colorado College
Colorado College concluded their regular season last weekend. They went 2-23 on the season and 2-12 in SCAC play.

University of Dallas
After a tough loss to Arlington Baptist earlier in the week, the Dallas Crusaders shore up the No. 5 seed with a come-from-behind victory over Austin College, 90-81. The Crusaders found themselves down by as many as 13 and faced a seven point deficit at the half. However, Dallas outscored the 'Roos by 16 in the second half to come away with the victory. The senior tandem of Brooke Hagemann and Marleyna Bustamante both notched 20-point days with Hagemann sending in 21 for a game-high and Bustamante contributing 20. Michelle DeCoud nearly clinched a double-double with 10 points and nine rebounds – a team best. The Crusaders move to 14-11 and 7-7 to conclude the regular season. They will begin the SCAC Tournament on their own floor, matching up with No. 4 seed Schreiner in the opening contest on Friday at 1 p.m.

Schreiner University
The Mountaineers wrapped up the No. 4 seed despite losing to Trinity this past weekend. In the 61-50 loss in San Antonio, Brooke Sanders tallied 15 points and grabbed five rebounds. Sabriyyah Fennell was the only other Mountaineer scorer in double figures with 10 points. She also had five assists, four steals and four rebounds. Schreiner concluded the SCAC season by tying a school record in conference wins at nine, a mark they set a season ago. Schreiner ends the regular season with a 11-13 overall record and a 9-5 SCAC record. They will open the SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament on Friday at 1 p.m. in the opening game. Their opponent is the host of the tournament, the fifth-seeded Dallas Crusaders. 

Southwestern University
Despite their loss to Texas Lutheran this past weekend, the Southwestern Pirates were still able to earn the No. 1 seed in the upcoming SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament. In the 66-59 to the Bulldogs, the Pirates shot 32.7% from the floor and 22.2% from three point range and was led by Owens with 16 points. Valerie Logan added in 13 with a team high four assists. Annie Bourne led all rebounders with 21 boards as the Pirates won the battle of the glass 46-39. The Pirates clinched a share of the regular season title last weekend and end the season with a 13-12 overall record and a 11-3 record in conference. The Pirates earn a bye in the tournament and will not play until 1 p.m. on Saturday. They will take on the winner of No. 4 Schreiner and No. 5 Dallas.

Texas Lutheran University
The Bulldogs clinched a share of the SCAC regular season title and also earned the No. 2 seed in the upcoming SCAC tournament with a 66-59 win over Southwestern in their home finale. The SCAC scoring champion, Taylor Dydalewicz, led the way again with a game-high 17 points, shooting 4-of-6 from the field and 6-of-9 from the free throw line. She was deadly from outside, knocking down all three 3-pointers she attempted. Chelsey Stolle was a force to be reckoned with on defense, pulling down 10 rebounds and blocking seven shots. Bianca Casas poured in 10 points as well. The Bulldogs end the regular season with a 16-8 overall record and a 11-3 SCAC mark. TLU earns a bye in the tournament and will not play until Saturday at 3 p.m. The Bulldogs will take on the winner of No. 3 Trinity and No. 6 Ausitn College.

Trinity University
The Tigers took out Schreiner, 61-50, this past weekend ot earn a share of the SCAC regular season title and earn the No. 3 seed at the upcoming SCAC Women's Basketball Tournament. Tiger seniors Hannah Coley, Taylor Hollins, and Lauren Splawn all reached double figures in scoring to celebrate their final home games of the regular season. Hollins and Splawn tied for the team lead with 12 points each, while Coley finished with 10. Anecia Richardson paced Trinity with 15 points, shooting 3-6 from the field and 9-13 at the free throw line. The Tigers finish 20-5 on the season and 11-3 in SCAC play, but despite earning a share of the regular season title, will not earn a bye due to the tiebreaker with Southwestern and Texas Lutheran. They will take the court in Irving on Friday as they open up against the No. 6 seeded Austin College 'Roos.
