JACOB GIUNTA OF UNIVERSITY OF DALLAS, a junior forward on the men's basketball team from Keller, Texas, has been selected the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Character and Community Male Student Athlete of the Week for the week beginning November 28.

The SCAC Character & Community award honors the efforts of student-athletes who excel in the field of athletics, and also serve their campus and community.

Jacob has always had a servant's heart, especially when it comes to his local community. The junior is the Treasurer of the Dallas Chapter of the international organization, Youth Missions.

“To me, community means forming meaningful relationships with those around you,” said Giunta. “The Dallas area needs a lot of help; I’ve always wanted to give back, and Youth Missions gives me the chance to do that.”

Jacob has been active in homeless outreach since high school, when his school would have a missions week as part of spring break. Now at UD, when Jacob is not on the court, he is in the Dallas-Fort Worth area serving the homeless in his local community.

“It’s less about what exactly we’re giving them, and more about how we give it,” said Jacob. “Building that relationship, looking them in the eye, and treating them like people is really important.”
